KageSuga Week - Day 4- Love Confession

“I think I’m in love with you.” Dog-walker AU. 

Suga wasn’t sure he had heard right. For one, he’s not looking his best in the least. He’s sweaty and gross and his hair is sticking to his face and he’s so ready for a shower it’s not even funny. This summer was one of the worst by far, and without a car, simply just walking outside seemed like a chore. Being outside because he was a dog walker was another thing all together. He was obligated to.

“I think I’m in love with you,” Kageyama, the owner of a spoiled and rather chubby corgi, said.

Kageyama took the corgi, Ume, from Suga’s hands, fitting her in his arms as he looked at Suga expectantly. Suga shifted on his feet, too self-conscious of his state of being to know how to answer. Kageyama had been a polite enough customer. He was formal, around two years his junior, and happened to be in the same university as him. Only, he still lived with his parents, and Suga had an apartment he shared that he was currently splitting bills over. Suga was momentarily relieved that Ume was his last charge of the day. Kageyama, as Suga found out, looked intimidating because of his frowns. Seeing him say goodbye to Ume when Suga came to pick her up told an entirely different story. (The pout and goodbye pet Kageyama gave her was enough to make Suga’s stomach squirm).

“I, uh,” Suga started. “I’m not sure how to respond, Kageyama.”

Kageyama nodded and ushered Ume into the house. He looked like he wanted to say something more as his mouth seemed to wobble. He ended up blurting out a hurried goodbye and closing the door in Suga’s face. Suga blinked twice before hurrying home.

Even brushing Kageyama’s hand when he all but handed him Ume’s leash was getting to Suga. If the sun wasn’t beating down on him from behind, it was pulsing in his hand as Kageyama brushed his knuckles with his fingertips. The pull of several dogs up and down sidewalks and through parks did little to stop his brain from short circuiting. He’d begun noticing too many things about Kageyama. Like, how frazzled his hair looked in the mornings because, though he rose early (probably to practice his setting), he truthfully wasn’t a morning person. He’d simply just been rather dedicated, a trait Suga appreciated in him. It was also the furrow in Kageyama’s brow that made Suga pause. When he was thinking, particularly about his next choice of words, it appeared, and it seemed to give Kageyama’s face a double pout.

When Suga returned later with Ume, Kageyama was again lingering in silence, shyly watching him as he cradled Ume in his arms. Suga hoped the heat from the day explained why his face seemed so red.

“Sugawara-san,” Kageyama began at last. “Will you let me take you out for coffee?”

Suga’s mouth twitched, and a teasing tone was already in his tone of voice. “I hope you mean ice coffee?”

Kageyama looked caught off guard but pleased as he nodded furiously and hugged Ume a little closer. His mouth twitched into a small, perfect smile that made Suga’s heart thump.

“Of course, if that’s what you want. I, uh, can I text you a time and day?”

“You can,” Suga said. “Just for the record, I look a lot better when I’m not sweaty and covered in dog hair.”

Kageyama smiled a little wider. “I think you look just fine either way.”
