“Equinox.”
“Solstice.”
“Equinox.”
“Solstice.”
Yui scrubs at her face with a tired groan.
“Technically Kageyama is right, it is the autumn equinox,” Suga says. “Equinox is autumn and spring. Solstice is summer and winter.” Suga settles down between Tobio and Hinata and stops them before they can begin crawling across the table to fight each other. Which they would. Because despite being adults they are still children when they get around each other sometimes.
She’s grown to love the man but he is an idiot sometimes.
“Fine,” Hinata pouts. “Equinox.” He scratches his scrunched up nose. “But solstice sounds cooler.”
“Well the closest solstice isn’t until the end of December and we’ve already put off getting married for almost a year because something keeps coming up so we are getting married on the autumn equinox.” Yui’s smile is tight as she looks between Tobio and Hinata. “Is there a legitimate problem with that?”
Hinata’s face flushes and he shakes his head.
Tobio’s face goes a little pink and he reaches for Yui’s hand and tangles their fingers together.
“Sorry,” Tobio says softly. “An autumn equinox wedding sounds perfect.” He smiles and squeezes her hand. “I can’t wait.”
Yui hums and smiles back. “We’ve waited long enough I think.”
—
Tobio can taste the magic lingering in the air as Suga waves his hands and brings the ceremony to an end.
“With this,” Suga says, voice amplified to fill the small clearing with his words, “you are bound together. You belong to no one but yourselves now and forever — this is my blessing to you, my dear friends — but you choose to give each other hope, to share your days and night with one another, you pledge your heart to one another and enter this marriage as equals.” He smiles at them both and Tobio manages to drag his eyes away from Yui’s radiant face to smile back. “The Court blesses this marriage.” Suga clears his throat to end the amplification spell and leans down. “And I would have blessed it even if they hadn’t,” Suga whispers. “Because you two deserve this.”
Yui smiles and leans up to kiss Suga’s cheek. “Thank you,” she whispers.
Tobio squeezes Yui’s hand before bringing it up to press a kiss to her knuckles. Then he tugs her forward and kisses her cheek. Then her nose and forehead and chin until she laughs and pulls him into a proper kiss.
“We should be going,” he murmurs against her lips.
Yui pulls back and grins at him. “You’re right, husband of mine.”
“He can’t help but grin back. “Then let’s go, wife of mine.”
They step away from Suga together, smiling at the small group of friends they invited for the ceremony, and head for the portal at the edge of the clearing hand in hand.
“The autumn equinox was perfect,” Tobio says as they step into the portal and disappear from the clearing.
“Told you so,” Yui says as they step out of the portal in front of their cabin.
