Kai Ramen, 1130 S Baldwin Ave, Arcadia, CA 91007
Kai Ramen offers more options than most ramen places. According to the menu, they’ve won numerous awards including being rated one of the top 10 ramen places in Los Angeles. Broths are made in-house and boiled over 18 hours. They have white ramen, black ramen, red ramen, and other specialty ramen with pork broth or chicken broth. You can add toppings or opt for whole wheat noodles. They also have combo specials.
Volcano ramen ($13): Popcorn chicken, thick noodle, scallion, red onion, bean sprouts, flavored egg over spicy chicken broth soup. I didn’t get a flavored egg! Very sad. There were about 6 pieces of lightly breaded popcorn chicken – juicy and lightly seasoned. The broth was red and spicier than I expected but the spice didn’t completely mask the chicken broth flavor. The toppings were okay. The noodles were straight and thin though they’re called thick noodles. Something was missing and I wasn’t crazy about the toppings but the broth wasn’t too salty. The ratio of noodles to broth was a little off – too many noodles or not enough broth.
Service was friendly but slow. They weren’t busy. The food took quite some time to arrive.
