Sanchez Sideline: Deion Sanders Names New QB1
He's done it again. Just when you think you have a read on Coach Prime, he throws a curveball. The Colorado Buffaloes will be going with a familiar face at quarterback, but it's not the one you might have expected.
Coach Deion Sanders has officially named fifth-year senior Kaidon Salter as the starting quarterback for the season opener against Georgia Tech. This means Salter has beaten out five-star freshman phenom Julian Lewis for the job.
It's a clear choice for experience over hype. Salter, a transfer from Liberty, has 29 career starts under his belt. Sanders made it clear that Salter's on-field experience was a key factor in the decision.
"The kid has a ton of experience. Dual threat. Throws the heck out of the ball as well," Sanders said of his new QB1.
But if you were hoping to see Lewis on the field, don't worry. Sanders confirmed that the freshman will still get his reps, with his playing time depending on how the game unfolds.
This decision is a testament to the new-look Buffaloes. This isn't the young, inexperienced team you saw last year. They've loaded up on veteran talent, and the quarterback position is no exception. With Salter at the helm, Colorado is betting on a proven commodity to lead them into a new era.
