KAIJULY KOMPENSATION DAY 3: FAVORITE GODZILLA VILLAINS- KING GHIDORAH, GIGAN, AND HEDORAH
(once again, I apologize for the lateness, I had college orientation and I had hoped to get this done before but alas… I will get thru this though, I promise that)
I have alot of fav villains, but the ones who stick out the most to me are these three Boys:
King Ghidorah- the classic goji villain, the world destroyer, the golden dragon, the head honcho, the whole enchilada; KG has a massive, frightening and imposing presence, right from his first fiery entrance in 1964; his motives for destruction, combined with that shiny sheen makes for a great contrast with Godzilla and the classic rivalry we know today; top design is the 1991 (not so much the origins), but his showa design is right up there too.. love them manes
Gigan- I actually don’t know what it is that’s appealing to me about Gigan, he just… is. I think it’s his unusual design, or his dangerous arsenal of weapons, or his interactions with his fellow villains (mostly Megalon tho); either way Gigan is honestly just a classic bad dude to me; top design is 1972, but I equally love the edgy, awesomely over-the-top 2004 design
Hedorah- this sludgy fellow is just evil incarnate, man. no motive other than destruction and killing, an eerie, mysterious presence, and that slightly goofy design that really amplifies the spook factor; Hedorah always just kinda spooked me, ever since i was a kid, and that’s why I love him. bonus points for the appealing evolutionary factor. top design is 1971. 2004 is ok i guess (and for as much as I enjoy Godzilla: Final Wars ,Hedorah’s appearance and subsequent demise really rustles my jimmies)
I love him so much I drew a portrait of him and made it my user icon! Why I love Pygmon has a lot in common with why I love Minya. They are comically, shockingly ugly characters that are simultaneously incredibly charming and endearing that have a tendency to bring out the best in the characters around them. They’re the “Ugly Cute” trope brought to bizarre-but-lovable life!
Pygmon is a sweet, helpful, and (most dramatically) selfless creature starring in two of my all-time favorite episodes of Ultraman. He’s something of a fixture in the Ultra franchise too: I was overjoyed to see him pop up in a particularly touching episode of Ultraman X.
The Ultra franchise is packed with kick-ass monsters, but none have as much heart and history as the Pygster.
#KAIJUly2017 Day 30 - Favorite Incarnation of a Multi-Movie Villian: Death Ghidorah ...beasty and brutal. There's a big diorama available for purchase that has DG beheading the Mothra larvae... I wouldn't mind owning it haha, but it was $700 when I saw it for sale in Japan. #kaijuly #Kaiju #deathghidorah #mothra #desghidorah #rebirthofmothra #rebirthofmothra2 #rebirthofmothra3
So... It's the Month of Kaiju-ly, so let's start of with some of my favorite classic Kaijus. Day 1: Godzilla | Day 2: Big Mothra | Day 3: King Ghidorah You can join me by drawing one Kaju a day for the Month of July. #kaijuly #kaijuly2017 #kaiju #july #gojira #godzilla #bigmothra #mothra #kingghidorah
KAIJULY KOMPENSATION DAY 4: OTHER FAVORITE GODZILLA KAIJU- BIOLLANTE, MEGALON, AND TITANOSAURUS
just some other kaiju I like, no categories, no rhyme, no rhythm. also, again, sorry for being late with these.
Biollante: biollante is essentially the complete package concerning great kaiju. a great backstory that combines mystical elements with classic scifi stropes, a massive, beautiful design that, fx-wise, is even more beautifully executed (in an era where execution is quite the issue, lol), she’s just awesome. biollante’s my girl, no questions about it.
Megalon: honestly, I like Megalon for the same reasons I like Gigan- that is, I can’t really explain it. like Gigan, he’s got a zany set of weapons and abilities and powers- it more or less encapsulates what’s great about those campy yet awesome partts of the Godzilla series. I guess nostalgia also plays a part, as Godzilla vs. Megalon was one of my first goji films and he was on of my favorite characters in Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee. regardless, he’s just a crazy dude that’s hard not to like.
Titanosaurus: like Biollante, Titanosaurus has the great combo of an immersive, tragic origin story and an awesome design. I love the aquatic aspects alongside the more dinosaurian/ almost dragon-like elements to his suit. also love that roar, man, that weird, elephant/ trumpet noise- thing, it’s all great
alright so it’s been a long time since i’ve posted art and i feel terrible about it,(in kaijuly no less) so i figured for the last 10 days of july i could do some daily art of my favorite kaiju stuff (godzilla, gamera, pacific rim, etc.), complete with my opinions nobody asked for! now, without further adieu...
KAIJULY KOMPENSATION DAY 1: FAVORITE GODZILLA DESIGNS
Godzilla 2000 (Miregoji): a pointy lad, the godzilla 2000 suit has this large wide muscular form, that, combined with the huge crystalline spikes (and generally spikiness), makes for an imposing presence. bonus points for the unique color scheme (though i prefer the more muted green/purple in Godzilla 2000 over the vibrant colors in Godzilla vs. Megaguirus)
Godzilla 1964 (Mosugoji): there’s a great contrast in this suit that I love where Godzilla appears both threatening and non-threatening,(which works great considering his roles in Mothra vs. and Ghidorah, though the suit looks better in the former) with the big evil yet sympathetic eyes, the slender, fierceful build, and those big ‘ol cheeks- there’s just alot of character in this suit. also, bonus points for dem brown brows
Godzilla 1989 (Biogoji): i would almost consider this my definitive, go-to goji if not for my love of the other suits. the thick, heavy yet well-proportioned build, the fierce, fanged mammalian face, those brown, animal eyes, the placement of the fins (largest spine near the shoulders is the best order of spines, don’t @ me), there’s just a mysterious, dangerous personality to this design. what’s not to love?
honorable mentions: Godzillas 1968, 1954, 2003, 2014, 2016- but look, there’s really no such thing as a bad goji suit, they all work to the advantages of their respective films more or less
