Today's Kaijune, day 13 was very inspired by the amazing news of Metroid Prime 4 and Metroid: Samus Returns. I am such a huge fan of this series and I would take any opportunity to draw Samus Aran.

Landfall New York in 1998: ZILLA!

Being that it's #kaijune on Instagram I decided to revisit the line art of this and actually add some color and do a background to match its sibling picture of 2014 Godzilla I did some years ago. This is a combination of the 1998 movie Zilla and Zilla Jr. from the cartoon series, so yes this one is the fire breathing actual monster-fighting one. I sorted through the many color variations I found of him (between the movie, cartoon, and various action figures) and went with a cool palette to be opposite traditional Godzilla's warmer browns. Made him blue-green to match the fact he's based on a mutated marine iguana (who naturally can be brown, gray or greenish).
