I'm comfortable to come off anon~ they've accepted it but they never mention it. I guess it makes sense bc they've known me as straight forever; they didn't know until just under a year ago. So I understand they have to adjust but at the same time I HAVE had some friends treat me differently and it makes me feel shitty. I'd listen to them preach they don't discriminate but the minute they know somebody who identifies as something other than heterosexual&romantic, they act weird...
I even had a friend try to doubt me. "Are you sure? It's not just because of your track record with guys is it?" Like umm no lol. Just bc I've had some bad luck with a few guys doesn't mean it'll make me switch preferences? I've always had these preferences, I've just never told you about them before. It really hurt me bc she's supposed to be one of my best friends; you don't question somebody when they reveal something so personal like that. You're supposed to accept them for who they are.
people do that; they act differently in defense like their identity or being is actually being threatened by someone they know and are friendly with being different. it’s like they begin to shun you, make you feel bad so you’ll drift away on your own. they say things like i’ll support you no matter what or you’ll always be the same to me but the moment they’re faced with something different than them, they turn into hypocrites.
then, they’ll try to make excuses for why you are the way you are. asking about failed crushes and bad relationships and things like that. it’s absolutely unacceptable that you are like this, naturally the way you are, and it’s not your fault at all.
if these so-called “friends” are treating you differently and it’s not making you feel very good, i don’t think you should be friends with them anymore. if you don’t think they’ll ever treat you the same again, it’s not worth putting yourself down over, do you.
find friends who will accept you for who you are, don’t be around people who just make you feel like shit. [ravi voice] u deserve it girl
