So, it has been a little bit since I have posted, and I fear that will be the status quo for the next few weeks as finals and projects take up a significant portion of my life. I become exceptionally unreliable around this time of year, but that is the nature of being a student.
This is a post that I've been super excited about for quite some time. I (somehow or another) acquired a copy of this fantastic album a wee bit before it was actually released, and have been counting down until I could share it with here. I know that the rule of this blog, or at least the rule I have set for myself, is that I talk about one song at a time. That being said, you should go listen to this whole album right now. Finish reading this, and then go listen to the whole album. Whatever else you had planned can probably wait.
It's difficult to say much about this song, because each time I turn it on I'm just dumbfounded by how inventive, cheeky, and fun it is. I have very little exposure to calypso music, so I don't really know what is standard and what isn't, but this track makes me feel like I should listen to a lot more. The bouncy rhythmic opening sets the mood, and beat gets more intense around 0:20 when the drums come in. The horn part at 0:47 mixes into this very well; it's a very consonant and pleasant sound all the way through.
As for deciphering the lyrics: good luck with that. I went to an international school, and pride myself on my ability to understand pretty much any accent. Alas, the lyrics of this song are difficult to figure out, but that's kind of cool because each listen reveals more and more. I've almost got all of them, but I'll let you all puzzle it out for yourselves.
