Some old deer died so I got the day off work so I finally typed up everything in my notebook from like the last month which means I have nine (9) documents open right now which means it's tag filling time

 “We never came here,” Kaithr says, joining them. “This was H’tera.” They pointed back along the coast. “Only came up as far as the temples.”

Fin nods and grins. “Well, that explains it.” He wraps an arm around Kestrel, nudging her. “Show me around?”

 “Sure.” She glances at Kaithr.

 “You know where to find me when you’re done.” Kaithr shrugs.

Kestrel and Fin, asking totally-not-a-parent permission to go roaming. They didn't ask for pocket money, so that's dumb

Ok, this got longer than I expected it to oops lmao. It’s not even that long, I just enjoy Kaithr and Mal as characters

 Anyhow this is a response to @raevenlywrites reading their characters did for Kaithr a while back and I mean I was joking in my tags but only also partially so like. This happened.

 So I guess happy birthday Raev! don’t feel you gotta respond in kind lmao

Kaithr swings the flute case idly by its strap, attention more on their surroundings than the path at their feet. They amble along, relieved to be out of the rush of the city and back amongst the trees. “This doesn’t look the same,” they say, although they don’t sound too concerned. They push their sunglasses up onto the top of their head, now that they’re out of the sunlight.

The trees were bigger, taller and broader, and the path was more grass like it hadn’t been walked as often on. It was still open and airy, but it felt more like a backdrop to something unspeakably ancient. They get the feeling that if they left the path, they’d be lost in a far different wood.

“A few hundred years does that to a place,” their companion replies.

“We didn’t change that much.” Kaithr glances at it. “Well. I didn’t.”

Their companion offers a sharp toothed grin; it looks like the idea of a human, assuming a creator who’d only ever had nightmares of them. Limbs a shade too long and fluid, teeth too sharp and too many, skin far too smooth. “Perhaps that makes you dead.” Its features were changing, too, although it seemed to favour cat eyes until it blinked sideways, like a lizard.

“Even the dead change, Mal.” They look away again, finding that (as always) staring at Mal too long made them feel sick.

It shrugged and capered at their side, flickering through the shadows like it wasn’t entirely there.

The wide path spread out further into a clearing and there, just as it had been all those years before, was the caravan.

Kaithr stops, gazing at it. Maybe they’d been joking. Maybe they wouldn’t remember.

“Do I have to push you in again?” Mal asks, hanging from a tree behind Kaithr.

But no, they were here as well, and Kaithr didn’t think they stayed here all the time. They’d remembered.

“No.” Kaithr shakes their head and clears their throat. “No, I just- how… do I look?”

“Like a tourist.”

Kaithr snorts. They’re wearing combat shorts, a tank top, and a flowery short sleeved shirt; a far cry from how they’d been dressed the last time they’d been here. “Probably deserved that.” They adjust the sunglasses on the top of their head and slide the strap of the flute case up onto their shoulder.

“Why does it matter?” Mal cocks its head, stepping fluidly onto the grass beside Kaithr.

“I don’t… know.” Kaithr frowns. “Maybe I just feel like I should’ve changed more.”

“There is a way you could change more,” Mal says in a singsong voice, leaning its chin on Kaithr’s shoulder. It has to crouch slightly to do so, and smirks sidelong at Kaithr.

“Bit warm out for fur,” Kaithr replies, unperturbed by the teeth so close to their face.

“Then boost. If you want solidarity, I too can look like a tourist.” Mal turns about Kaithr to stand in front of them, and is now wearing an outfit identical to Kaithr save for the inverted colours.

Kaithr blinks at Mal. “I really look like a dad that’s trying too hard, what the fuck.” They flip the thin plait back over their shoulder and run their hands back through the rest of their short hair.

“Very young dad. Dad in training.” Mal pats their head. “Now come on. I can come in this time, right?”

Kaithr walks forward and knocks on the caravan door.

“You didn’t do that last time,” Mal murmurs.

“Because you pushed me in,” Kaithr says, but they take the hint and step in. “Uh- hey? I came for a reading a couple hundred years back and I- ha, I guess I’m back with that update.”

“Nice place,” Mal says appreciatively, looking around. “Great vibes.”

Kaithr elbows them. “It helped. I mean, I stopped… running from it all? And the place where I live, it was only meant to be a stopping point for the others while they acclimatised, so it… became that. More of a holiday point. Made it easier.” They shrug.

“Also I’m there, which they forgot to mention last time.” Mal grins, leaning its elbow on Kaithr’s shoulder. “Somehow I didn’t factor into the everyone’s growing old and dying around me scenario, which personally I find a little rude.”

Kaithr elbows Mal again. “If you were serious about that update.”

“We may have taken it as an excuse for a holiday.” Mal’s got a slushie cup from somewhere and sucks at the straw. It may have just warped it there from the nearest shop, because Kaithr’s fairly certain there hadn’t been one in the caravan before.

At least, they hope there hadn’t been.

Means “Lost” in old Sayth

3. What are your nicknames/other names?

I... I haven’t had nicknames in so long. They don’t - I don’t have any. Not anymore.

4. What’s your gender?

A mistake

5. What’s your sexuality?

I’m not attracted to anyone

6. Where are you from?

I... I assume somewhere in Z’kare...? I don’t know, I can’t... I can’t remember my childhood.

7. How old are you?

I haven’t counted in years. Not as young as I look, that’s certain

8. What is your magic form/what species are you?

 I’m a werecreature, but I try not to... change too much now.

9. What does your human form look like?

 Small, white, skinny. Short hair. scarred.

10. What’s your aesthetic?

caves. warmth. darkness even I can’t see in. but... not silence, maybe the wind? Or waves.

11. Who’s your best friend?

 I don’t have one at the moment

12. Would you ever get a piercing/tattoo?

 I’ve never... considered it. I think I had pierced ears once? I don’t remember.

13. When are you happiest?

Ha, that’s rich. I haven’t been happy in-

 I suppose maybe with Skren and Osil, I nearly...

14. What’s your biggest secret?

 That I was the Alisier. That I killed the mages. That I destroyed magic and the gods so I could pretend not to be a monster.

 Osil and El, but they’re not going to last. They’re only human, and they don’t... they’re scared. Which is fair.

 Skren might, though. He’s just as lost as I am.

alright, 2 and 8 for one of your least talked about OCs and 9 and 19 for that one character you will never be able to stop talking about (sorry for not giving specific names, I've been away from my writeblr for almost a year I guess)

Aha no worries! And of course I said yes I’m playing this and then disappeared for three hours on an accidentally long wander. Good times.

 Ok so really there are... most of my OCs still fall under least talked about lmao but seeing as I’m talking Merrok today, he’s getting those!

So I’ve actually only written Merrok in... oh, two things so far. This is the older one (which is gonna need rewritten to deal with new info, but that’s an ongoing process)

 He’s bitten his nails down to the quick so often and so badly that they bleed really easily

Probably about being left behind. Like they’re walking along in a group with their friends, and then they slow down without meaning to and their friends keep walking ahead, and no matter how much they try to speed up, to catch back up to them, their friends just keep getting further out of reach. And not one of them notices or looks back or waits for Kaithr to catch up

19: Your OC’s life is a musical. What’s the title of their big show-stopping song?

hahaha ok hm. It would probably be “I’m Not Who You Think I Am”, and it would be this big build up of all these other characters talking about the stories and the legends and all the hypothesis they have about them, with Kaithr in the middle starting quietly on a “that’s not me” mantra and slowly getting louder until they drown them all out and shut everyone up. Whether or not they actually say who they think they are at any point in this song is entirely up for debate

OC Interview Tag; Redux

I keep thinking about that interview tag with Kaithr I did, and then I got bored at work so. so now we have it as filled out by Kaithr during the main distinct characterisations they get! And now I’m sharing it because why the heck not.

So we have Leiri (circa 1248), The Alisier (circa... anywhere between 1262-2915), Kaithr 1.0 (circa 2930), and Kaithr 2.0 (circa 3504).

 We’re assuming for the sake of simplicity that The Alisier can actually speak.

1. What is your full name?

Leiri: Leiri Kaithr

The Alisier: Alisier

Kaithr 1.0: Kaithr. Just Kaithr

Kaithr 2.0: Kaithr Alisier. Or Leiri Alisier Kaithr, I mean... it varies. Still just go by Kaithr, though, it... fits.

2. What does your full name mean? 

Leiri: it uh... means... lost lily? I think?

The Alisier: Belief.

Kaithr 1.0: Means “Lost” in old Sayth

Kaithr 2.0: “Lily Believed Lost”. Or “Lost Belief”

3. What are your nicknames/other names?

Leiri: Krinos calls me “Tserron”, S’ray calls me “Ellar”. That’s about it.

The Alisier: Monster. Beast.

Kaithr 1.0: I… I haven’t had nicknames in so long. They don’t - I don’t have any. Not anymore.

Kaithr 2.0: Still don’t have one, really. Some of the kids call me Kai, if that counts

4. What’s your gender?

Leiri: I’m female

The Alisier: it. I have none.

Kaithr 2.0: Still hella ace! I have no idea about romantic attraction though. It's tricky, knowing I’m gonna outlive them all, you know?

Leiri: uhhhhh not Leritheyar...? We just called it Earth? Country called Scotland, though.

The Alisier: Anther made me.

Kaithr 1.0: I… I assume somewhere in Z’kare…? I don’t know, I can’t… I can’t remember my childhood.

Kaithr 2.0: So I think I’m not from this world, but I’m gonna say Z’kare anyway, because it’s where I spent most of my time. It’s the place I remember best.

7. How old are you?

Leiri: like... eighteen? Ish?

The Alisier: time has no meaning

Kaithr 1.0: I haven’t counted in years. Not as young as I look, that’s certain

Kaithr 2.0: I uhhhhhh well. Older than the history this lot reliably remember, at least. It’s been like 2000 years since everything went to shit, so. Older than that.

8. What is your magic form/what species are you?

Leiri: I’m a werecreature, snow leopard.

The Alisier: monster is not a magic form. I just Am.

Kaithr 1.0: I’m a werecreature, but I try not to… change too much now.

Kaithr 2.0: still a snow leopard werecreature. Or... God, if you believe some of the mainlanders. Which I don’t, I mean I was there. I know what gods look like.

9. What does your human form look like?

Leiri: annoyingly short, long hair, freckles.

The Alisier: I have no human form.

Kaithr 1.0: Small, white, skinny. Short hair. Scarred.

Kaithr 2.0: hey, well, I got my plait back. And a cape.

10. What’s your aesthetic?

Leiri: music, flying- gryphons, not dragons- campfires. Laughter.

The Alisier: blood. Screams. Sharp and painful metal

Kaithr 1.0: caves. warmth. darkness even I can’t see in. but… not silence, maybe the wind? Or waves.

Kaithr 2.0: The sea. Flute music, the north wind

11. Who’s your best friend?

Leiri: S’ray, probably.

The Alisier: they’re all dead or gone. I probably killed them.

Kaithr 1.0: I don’t have one at the moment

Kaithr 2.0: Malacharra, in as much as Malacharra can be considered a friend.

12. Would you ever get a piercing/tattoo?

Leiri: I have my ears pierced, just the lobes. I don’t really... know if getting a tattoo would work, considering how much I shift forms.

The Alisier: scars. Scars everywhere.

Kaithr 1.0: I’ve never… considered it. I think I had pierced ears once? I don’t remember.

Kaithr 2.0: I might get a tattoo of the old Harkri’s Hunters sign. Not sure, though.

13. When are you happiest?

Leiri: hanging out with the hunters at the lodge, maybe? Or on a flight with Keya. Or riding with Cheyenne

The Alisier: happiness?

Kaithr 1.0: Ha, that’s rich. I haven’t been happy in-

I suppose maybe with Skren and Osil, I nearly…

Kaithr 2.0: give me a good campfire, a group ready to joke and laugh about, we’re sorted.

14. What’s your biggest secret?

Leiri: That I have no idea what I’m doing and I’m barely even qualified to do it.

The Alisier: I might have been human, once.

Kaithr 1.0: That I was the Alisier. That I killed the mages. That I destroyed magic and the gods so I could pretend not to be a monster.

Kaithr 2.0: I mean you live as long as I have, you’re gonna forget most of your secrets. My past is a pretty... pretty big no-go area.

15. Who is your most recent acquaintance?

Leiri: Our most recent werecreature is Sally, she’s... odd. Apparently she was in the serve of some Fair Folk or something, before she got pulled through the worlds?

The Alisier: the guards? No one else lasts long enough. I know no one.

Kaithr 1.0: Osil and El, but they’re not going to last. They’re only human, and they don’t… they’re scared. Which is fair.

Skren might, though. He’s just as lost as I am.

Kaithr 2.0: Kane. He’s gonna be fun to have around, I can tell.

 We’re in full on Kaithr mode today, so!

 Where to even start.

 Kaithr is basically what happens when I consider the implications of a character’s immortality being given to them by tying their fate to the fate of the world they live in.

 It’s not fun. Since being tied to the fate of the world, they’ve had... they’ve had a rough time of it, but we’re just talking Kaithr so!

 After they regain themselves (minus a gender but like they ain’t really sad about that), Kaithr is mostly regret and guilt and loneliness that would far rather be left alone to live out the world in peace. I mean... destroying the gods and swallowing all magic essence apparently does that to a person? Even if they did need to do it to heal themself.

 Unfortunately, people are drawn to Kaithr and they keep being wrapped up in things. The world isn’t done with them and all that. They’re making more of an effort not to kill anyone over it, though. As long as no one asks any searching questions (or realises just how old they are) it’s fine.

 Frequently will Nope the fuck out of things when it’s getting too much. Often when people realise they aren’t growing any older.

 Cue a couple of Realisations later and they’re a little bit more adjusted and loving life as the slightly irritating Unknowable person living out in the islands. The magic users look to them for advice, a lot of people... kinda worship them and also don’t believe they exist, which is fine by Kaithr.

 They’re also blatantly my go to character when things get rough, because I’ve put them through the ringer a lot like so... they compartmentalise really well? It’s a good way to just. focus on something else. idk. They’re helping right now.
