“Underestimating her is a bad idea, KID.”
Says the guy who picked her up on a lark, just to see how she’d react.
@kaivoleur // continued from here.
there's no flare of triumph when kid takes off his monocle and hat -- for one , it's not as if he doesn't already know that kid's face looks remarkably like his own. two , it didn't seem ... earned. it's not as if conan had managed to corner kid and taken off his " mask " through cornering and capturing him. the only reason why kid was taking off everything was because he was shot.
so , instead of staring at kid and trying to catalogue every difference between his face and his own , he instead takes out conan's phone to figure out which would be the closest restaurant with the best food to help with the blood loss. he also makes a mental note to buy strawberries or dried peaches for kid to snack on later.
he ignores the hushed sounds of kid struggling to change clothes , knowing that any offer of assistance in this endeavour wouldn't go over well. by the time kid is done changing , conan has mapped the best route to the restaurant and has already made a cart for a to-go order.
' there's a seafood restaurant nearby , ' conan says , looking up from his phone. he's keeping an eye on kid's face in order to monitor whether or not he's about to pass out anyway despite kid's numerous assurances that he's not going to. ' do you want to check the order before i place it ? even if tuna's not your favourite , it's probably the best item on their menu that'll help with the blood loss. '
@kaivoleur.
' oh , wow , i thought i got rid of you. ' conan rocks back on his heels , a feigned look of annoyance on his face.
@kaivoleur asked: there's a burst of confetti , followed by a single card floating down on a balloon-string. the balloon itself is a pale white , with KID's caricature drawn on it in cheap sharpie. “ happy birthday ! ” the card reads. “ congrats on getting older ! please find your present hot glued to the sole of your shoe. ” ( it's a booklet of what can be loosely described as ' coupons '. one of them says , 1 HOUR OF PETTING 12 DOVES ! another says , FREE GET-OUT-OF-GLUE-TRAP CARD ! the usefulness of these thin pieces of paper seems ... niche , to say the least. )
conan can only glare up at the ceiling in a slightly feverish haze as he covers the lower half of his face with a blanket. it sucks to be sick on one’s birthday , especially when some of the people who he wouldn’t mind celebrating with it most don’t actually know it’s his birthday. he had received a text message from ran on shinichi’s phone at exactly midnight , a charming habit that ran had started since they were twelve , but it wasn’t the same.
it feels like he blinks , and then there’s suddenly a poof of confetti overtop of his head , followed by a card floating down on a white balloon. sitting up , and coughing a little with the change of position , conan reaches up to grab the card that could really only be from KID and reads it with slightly narrowed eyes. does he trust KID ? with lives and doing the right thing when it really counted ( or when there weren’t any jewels involved ). does he trust KID not to leave a surprise prank for his birthday ? well ...
still , he leaves the sweated out fūton and patters down his room to the genkan , going quietly so that ran couldn’t hear him where she was in the kitchen making soup. one shoe of his is suspiciously a few centimetres higher than the others , so conan grabs that one and turns it over , seeing a BOOKLET OF COUPONS labelled. his eyebrows furrow , and he gently takes it off the sole of his shoe to read through them. he snorts ( causing a small coughing fit ) when he reads them. oddly specific , but it makes sense for KID.
he tucks the booklet away in his pocket and heads back to his room. maybe one day , he’ll throw one of the “ pet twelve doves “ coupon at kid ...

eager waving! hello friend!!
「 And cheeks pull up as he smiles a bit more wider. A good evening to you too. ~ 」
"Hey, wanna make a deal? Your ice cream cone for an early peek at my next heist notice. Or maybe a new ice cream cone, not yours exactly." KID grins; he's well-disguised, right now, but the monocle and its swinging clover charm are unmistakeable.
「 He had a ‘sneaking suspicion’ that he was being watched, and perhaps that’s enough to explain why he seems unfazed when they turn up ( and undeterred by the disguise — monocle or not — having no less than expected it ).
Having said that, he’s just got this ice cream, you know ; even one he isn’t indifferent to but actually likes. “ Assuming that I would, in fact, want to make such a deal. ” Conan returns in a dry-laced tone, his face drawn into a semi-flat look ( okay, maybe he is a ‘little’ interested, but he’s fairly sure he isn’t that eager for a preview ). “ And what makes you think I’d offer you one ? ” 」
"I don't know what to make of you yet," he declares from a (relatively) safe distance (which is pretty far, as KID is quite accustomed to long-range weapons). "You know what's a good gauge of character, though? Favorite colors. You can tell a lot about someone from their answer. So what's your favorite color?"
“Likewise.” Amuro kept his eyes on the relatively harmless thief, arching an eyebrow at the odd question. “Colors hmm? I was under the impression that this was a robbery, not an interview.” He shrugged a shoulder, taking a second to think over his answer. “I used to be a fan of,” his nose wrinkled in distaste, “red. Events have soured me on the color as of late.”
“What about you, Kid-san, a preference?”
