Hey Phui! A Japanese Puyo fan I follow on Twitter recently found your Puyo animation and praised it! But they mentioned they don't understand anything since it's in English. Would you be interested if I translated the dialogue into Japanese for you to add to your video with YouTube's closed captioning feature? I think it could get more attention from Japanese fans!

Which Puyo character do you think Sega has flanderized the least? Or, if you prefer: Which Puyo character has Sega written the best? "Well-written" is a strong term though, and I've never heard praise for Sega's handling of the characters...

In terms of the Compile characters? Suketoudara, easily!! He went from being kind of a grouchy jerk in the early Compile era games, slowly began developing his own personality, then became a straight-up bro character upon his return in Puyo 15th and 7! That’s like, the opposite of flanderization, that’s growth, lol.

In terms of Fever cast… Ms. Accord remains mysterious as always. Ringo and Ecolo I think also remain really good cast members, I think they’re some of the best characters actually.

Do you have any explanation for why some of the bigger sprite errors exist? For example, the lighting on Shuichi's hair being in completely different spots on different sprites when only his facial expression was supposed to change? If they just copied his entire sprite and changed the facial expression (which seems the most efficient way to make different sprites), why do these errors exist?

i really have no idea

in the end, having these kind of inconsistencies is what takes time away, it can’t be explained with “oh it was rushed” because re-doing things and having same-pose sprites have inconsistencies with those things that were re-done is more time consuming than having one pose and using several different expression layers on top of that

Okay, so I’ll try to explain this as best as I can? It’s still morning, so I apologize if I’m confusing lol.

So on Tumblr, a common complaint I see regarding any form of media is when homosexual characters are killed or die, saying that the writers are “burying them” in a case of homophobia. As a future author, not only does this statement kind of struggle to hold water but undermines what people should ask for in LGBT characters.

A character’s important trait should be… their actual character. And sometimes death adds a whole new layer to them if one got attached to said character over a period of time, or they have significant meaning to another character, whether their homosexual or not.

For example, I’m going to use March Harriet from the Batman comics. Cute sassy bunny lady from England, had a lover named Lily, confirming that the character was a lesbian. This reveal with her backstory of being a drifter with her lover added a whole new layer of depth and personality--

However, rather than met with positivity and desire to see more of Harriet, a vocal minority people got upset at the writer for killing Harriet’s lover, even though that added to her driving motivation, claiming it was a case of “bury the gays”.

I don’t know about anyone else-- but I value a character being well-rounded more than just their sexuality alone. There’s a lot of badly written content that people blatantly force you to accept just because it has LGBT characters that are alive.

Even if a character dies, you remember them for who they are, yeah? That and their overall story purpose… I dunno.

Either way, this makes me worry about when I write my original story. :V
