Polar Bear Yearling by David & Shiela Glatz
Polar Bear Mother + 2 by David & Shiela Glatz Via Flickr: Polar Bear (Ursus maritimus) with two cubs off the coast of Barter Island, Alaska.
Polar Bear Sister to the Rescue by David & Shiela Glatz Via Flickr: OK here is the follow up to the previous image ("Polar Bear Mother Comforts Hungry Cub"). Same scene, cropped a bit tighter on this shot. Polar Bear mother wouldn't nurse and the male cub (on the right) was wailing and howling about it. His sister (in the center of this image) at first stood next to her mother, keeping quiet. Then she approached her brother and nuzzled him. They began play-fighting and that calmed down the little male. Nice work, sis. We appreciated the opportunity to get a glimpse into the lives of these magnificent animals. Kaktovik, Barter Island, Arctic Alaska.
The Polar Bear Maker of Mischief by David & Shiela Glatz Via Flickr: Polar Bear (Ursus maritimus) male cub, at right, kept messing with his smaller sister. He finally tired and laid down in the snow on the coast. His sister, seeing an opportunity to escape, moved off slowly to the left. Too slow! The young male woke in time to restrain his sister, from behind, with his teeth. Kaktovik, Barter Island, Arctic Alaska.
Polar Bears Back to Back by David & Shiela Glatz Via Flickr: Polar Bear (Ursus maritimus) cub takes advantage of a piece of driftwood to achieve the same height as its mother. All the better to scan the spit of land off the coast of Kaktovik, for male Polar Bears or other intruders. The cub seems to be genuinely enjoying this pursuit. Kaktovik, North Slope of Alaska, USA.
Standing Polar Bear by David & Shiela Glatz Via Flickr: Even from a boat, watching an adult Polar Bear (Ursus maritimus) from a safe distance, the bear is an impressive sight. Here an adult Polar Bear caught our scent when the wind shifted. These bears will stalk and kill humans - we are on their menu - so we were happy to be on a boat with a working motor. Stuck around just long enough to get some frame-filling images of this awesome and beautiful animal. Kaktovik, Barter Island, Arctic Alaska
