Hiii ep 25
In ep 24 "Knock Knock" I found this interaction between Kalaya and Eursulon so fascinating
Kalaya: You're a true friend of a wizard of the citadel?
Eursulon: Yes.
[...]
Kalaya: Is she kind?
Eursulon: She can be.
It felt like such a big sister thing to be cautious of this wizard and have concern for her little brother. A spirit in a world that can be unkind to wild ones such as themselves.
But more interesting than that was Eursulon's answer. "She can be." It could be interpreted as, sometimes she is kind and other times not. Which we have seen both from Suvi (wielding the power, prestige, and station of a wizard vs loving and cherishing her friends).
But it could also be interpreted in a future connotation. Like she COULD be kind but we have yet to see. Will the citadel justification machine take over or will she retain the lessons learned from grandmother wren and hold on to a respect for the world of spirits
Last Eursulon saw Suvi she was caught between her friends and the citadel. And while wizardry is not innately unkind the systems put in place by the citadel can be concerning. Suvi has the potential to go down an alarming path with the brass of the citadel pushing her along. She has the capacity to be "unkind". But the gut reactions we see from her. The Suvi reactions, not Sky or the citadel, but SUVI are always kind. With her friends in her life Suvi can be kind and would continue to be kind. But her friends keep pulling away and the fall out from the last goodbye may be very influential into who Suvi will be.
Eursulon may not have meant much by his response but it feels very ominous in that we are yet to see the type of legacy this interation of the wizard Sky is going to leave.
Listening to episode 23. Kalaya has made me cry oh my god I love her so much she’s so caring she’s the best big sister he could have asked for and the amount of tragedy in how little time they will have together when she devoted her life to finding her little brother. Oh man. This shit always gets to me
thinking about the start of arc 4 and Eursulon’s disappointment that they weren’t able to go to Kalaya’s burrow and how they don’t know how much time she has left and how he won’t know if that was his last chance to see her

I'm going to be crying over these time-haunted siblings for all eternity, I think.

Kalaya (Brennan): I spent a lifetime of mortals looking for you. Did I—did I get it wrong?
"Eursulon (Lou): No... I—I—whatever space exists between where we're from, and where we are, I believe I may have spent more time there than you did. I came after you.
Kalaya (Brennan): I thought—it was so much worse if it was the other way. I thought there was a world where you died at Starling Ford. I thought there was a world where I was too late, it's all okay if I was too early.
Kalaya (Brennan) I learned so much magic just to try and find you. and you weren't hidden away. You were just a little late. You were on your way this whole time. I'm so happy you found me.
"The problem with other people is that one must leave before the other + one always gets there first." end ID]
i have a wbn theory but it's a spoiler so it's below the cut
IS KALAYA'S UNNAMED EX-HUSBAND EIOGHORAIN ?!?!?
Ok. As much as I cried for Kalayas farewell party, and after the book talk, yes I understand Lou's point and Brennans penchant for "growing up" stories....
But...
Eursulon should have given Kalaya his pauldron.
Listen. I know tradition is silly sometimes. But this is what I Thought was the far superior option:
Eursulon gives Kalaya the pauldron, she was there when their father told Eursulon what to do with it.
She walks up to her husband, takes him by his ghostly hand, walks back up the path to her father to FINALLY introduce them "hi dad this is my husband ❤️" (a silly tradition but one most young ppl that have married their chosen has had that enjoyed witnessing The Meeting, that Kalaya never got.)
Then SHE buries The Pauldron and grows the tree to lay under so the both of them can have eternal "rest" amongst the playful watch of her young, curious siblings and the Great Bear; thereby setting the course that all their mortal generations will be forever linked with the parade, like a spiritual resting place to go to/ opening a stronger familial bridge between both the mortal and spirits; life and death. All ties in well under Eursulons banner of purpose of saving both worlds.
Eursulon gives up HIS childhood symbol of honor by allowing Kalaya to have eternal rest with her husband in the forests of her siblings, both sides of her family, which Eursulon will always protect.
crying over different things
“My little brother! He was on his way. I lived a life of mortals, and you were always on your way.”
