My look back in time across the Subscriber Short Trips comes to an end in 2009 and it’s a single story, Museum Peace by prolific author James Swallow. This is an Eighth Doctor story read by Nick Briggs. It’s also the only Subscriber Short Trips [I believe] to also be given away to subscribers of another range, the third series of Eighth Doctor Adventures. (more…)

Day 5: A Favourite Non-Companion Character
Kalendorf played by Gareth Thomas
Kalendorf is not exactly the most well known Doctor Who character, only really appearing in the Dalek Empire series, I suppose also in a couple of Big Finish special releases and a Short Trips book.
So I think that for the story presented in Dalek Empire, Kalendorf works perfectly which is why I like him so much, but it is odd as I think had he been presented in a standard Doctor Who episode, I would not have grown to like him, him being very militaristic, with a heavy focus on honour and not being affected by the death’s of others. However, within Dalek Empire all of this is perfectly balanced by the plot and setting.
Kalendorf's speech in Death to the Daleks breaks my heart. It is one of the best written sections of any drama.

Kalendorf and Susan are my babies and need to be protected. I still need to listen to the fourth series though.
Yeah I luv Kalendorf, he’s amazing. Susan as well.... It took me a while to get used to them not being there in series 3, but I then just developed a love of Siy and Kaymee..... so yeah... that didn’t end well. I haven't listened to the fourth series either, but it is on my ‘to listen’ list.
