Summary: A knight and a heir share a carefree exchange under the moonlight on a random evening. The knight reflects upon his feelings for the heir.
Author's Note: Hello! This is my first ever work that is related to Twisted Wonderland, so it might be a bit shabby. I decided to spice it up from the usual stuff I see in the tags with my favourite pairing: Silver x Kalim. I really love these two and see so much potential in them from the canon interactions. This fic was mainly self indulgent, but if you also enjoy it then reblogs and feedback are greatly appreciated ^^
(you can also read this on ao3 under the same name, i can't drop the link due to tumblr.. not being nice to me last time)
“And that’s why I..” Before Silver could finish his sentence, Kalim’s face was already mere inches away from his own. He couldn’t help blushing, under this type of scenery, and with Kalim looking like the most handsome man he’s ever met, his next words hung on his throat.
“You..?”
“I... want to spend more time together like this. Alone. Just me and you, and..” Silver looked down. He couldn’t stand seeing Kalim’s soft expression, he just wanted to kiss him right then and there, but he couldn’t do that so suddenly, not when…
“..Mmph--”
Silver’s eyes fluttered open, noticing that the sun had already set.
“...Dammit, I slept in too late.” He muttered, sitting himself up. He couldn’t just go back to his dorm this late, not like his father and the others weren’t used to it, but he felt embarrassed even thinking about going back at this time of the day, he probably missed out on dinner already. The male sighed, leaning against the tree he dozed off beside.
That dream he just had.. He’s been having them a lot. Not even with other people, but with Kalim. Kalim Al-Asim, his classmate and friend. Well, friend is a big understatement, but Silver wasn’t willing to admit that.
Kalim’s a nice guy, he’s always willing to help out others and has a personality that could brighten up the whole room. If Silver was dozing off, Kalim made sure to wake him up and tell him what was going on. If he wasn’t with Jamil, he would approach Silver pretty often, talk about whatever was on his mind, and have the brightest smile on his face. It was nice, hanging out with Kalim so casually, not having to worry about getting lectured or feeling embarrassed.
Yet lately, for the past few weeks, maybe even months.. He’s become flustered around Kalim. When Kalim compliments his appearance or his skills, he can’t help but turn red. He was confused at first, not able to understand why his heart beat just a bit faster around his classmate, why he often stared at him when it was lunchtime or why he felt sudden urges to hold the other’s hand, sit ever so closer to him.. Silver went to his father about these problems, thinking it was some sort of health problem. After a long laughing fit, Lilia explained that he was not sick, he was just crushing on Kalim. Finding that out.. It was humiliating for him, but the old man reassured him it’s normal for humans to feel that way, but that he shouldn’t rush into his feelings too fast… If he wanted to, however, he could confess to Kalim whenever he felt ready to.
Those words stuck to him ever since, yet having these cheesy dreams about his friend.. It was still so new to him, he couldn’t help but be embarrassed every time he woke up from a dream like that, this time being no exception. He huffed, looking down at the grass, most definitely blushing.
His head perked up once he heard a sudden shuffling noise coming from a nearby bush. Silver turned his head around every direction, alert, before glancing towards the direction of the bush to see a bunny hop towards him. His expression softened, petting the bunny when it got closer to him. It got comfortable around him, eventually resting on his lap. He smiled softly.
“There, there.. Rest well, little guy.” He said to it, gently stroking its head. He heard more shuffling, followed by footsteps. He stayed on alert, but figured it could be someone like Idia again.. The senior did tell him he liked going on campus around this time of day, so he decided to put his attention on his animal friend instead.
“Hmm hmm hmmmm~ ♪ Dududuu~”
Humming.. Idia wasn’t the type of guy to do that, but Silver shouldn’t judge a book by its cover he supposed. He kept petting his bunny friend, who was fast asleep. He could doze off too, but something wouldn’t let him do so. Was it an instinct? A certain feeling? He couldn’t tell himself.. But he didn’t mind the silence, he hoped whoever was keeping him company (which he doubted was Idia) on campus didn’t mind it either.
…
The footsteps from before suddenly faltered, but then they didn’t? And they did again?! And then they didn’t.. Wait, was the person skipping around? Their steps kept a certain rhythm, as if they were dancing around in a big festival.. Could this anonymous person perhaps be listening to music? He would likely never know, was it even worth staying alert for? Wait- Maybe this person’s dancing around to distract him! Yes. He must stay alert.
He patted the rabbit’s head one last time before telling it a goodbye, getting up from his place and scanning the area around him, one hand hovering over his magic pen. He had a stern expression, in case there really was danger nearby.
Once he saw a figure in the corner of his eye, he stopped his tracks, getting his magic pen.
“Stay right where you are!”
“HuuUWAAH--!” The figure turned to look at him, their face immediately familiar to him, “Silver! You shouldn’t scare me like that, jeez…” The person huffed.
“K-Kalim..!” Silver tensed up, immediately putting his magic pen away, “My sincerest apologies, I thought an intruder was roaming around campus trying to cause a distraction..” He fixed his posture, bowing to Kalim.
“What are you bowing for? We’re friends, there’s no need to be formal..!”
“Lord Malleus told me to treat those of royalty with utmost respect. You are no exception.”
“Well, if you have to respect me.. I order you to not bow to me!” Kalim approached the other man, lightly lifting his head up so that they could finally meet face to face. Silver gulped, still tense.
“You’re awfully tense..” Kalim commented. Was he that obvious? Not only did he feel ashamed for almost attacking Kalim just now, but he was also extremely flustered around him, especially after the dream he just had.. But he wasn’t about to tell Kalim all that, so he kept quiet.
“Uh-... What brings you out here so late anyways?” Silver asked in a muffled voice, trying to divert the topic from his weird behaviour. Kalim shrugged, “I like taking walks around campus alone, when it’s all nice and quiet. Sure, having tons of company during the day is great, don’t get me wrong! But sometimes, I just need some me-time.”
“Oh… Should I.. leave then?”
“No! Not at all! I enjoy your company a lot, Silver!” Kalim added on, holding onto the other’s arms. “If anything, I think you need some company, hehe!”
Silver let out a small smile, slowly relaxing himself, “That.. might be true. I don’t really feel like going back to Diasmonia just yet.”
“Why? Did something happen?”
Silver shook his head, “No, everything is fine. I guess I just.. need some ‘me-time’ too.” Kalim nodded, having a bright smile on his face, “Then we can spend our time together! It’s just the two of us, so we can do whatever we want!”
Silver blinked, looking deadpan. Kalim stared back, tilting his head, “What’s that expression for?”
“I don’t really… have anything I want to do right now.”
“Hmmm…. Weeellll, I have something in mind that we could do together.” Kalim responded. It was Silver’s turn to tilt his head in slight confusion, having a blank expression on his face.
“Here, let me start off..” The other male said, taking Silver’s hands. It was quiet for a moment, Silver wasn’t sure what to do… Before Kalim started spinning him around at a rapid speed. After one full turn, Kalim rested one of his hands on Silver’s shoulder, still holding his hand with the other. Silver wasn’t sure what to do with his free hand, just letting sort of.. Stay there.
“On my waist.” Kalim let out suddenly. The other raised a brow at him. “Your free hand, Silver.” He chuckled as Silver finally got the message, placing his hand on Kalim’s waist. This felt awfully forward, but the Scarabian seemed fine with it, so he supposed he should be okay with it too.
The knight was no good with dancing, it was very obvious. Kalim laughed it off, willing to teach Silver how to dance properly, but also letting him go free-style, since doing whatever you want is the most fun someone could have. The taller male fell short on his steps constantly, not only due to his mediocre skills, but due to how nerve wracking this whole encounter was. Dancing with Kalim alone under the moonlight, just the two of them, no one walking on them any time soon.. Silver wanted to risk doing things he never considered doing before, to have Kalim to himself for as long as he could.. These feelings that he never felt before, it was weird to have them submerge at once.
Despite how unusual he felt, Kalim was laughing and smiling the whole time, enjoying this exchange between them.. His joy was contagious, Silver couldn’t help but smile and chuckle along, enjoying Kalim’s company to the fullest. It was one of the best nights of his life, he hoped Kalim thought the same too. They both smiled and chuckled, dancing under the moonlight, doing all sorts of silly moves as well as graceful ones.
Once they were both getting tired, Kalim dipped Silver suddenly. Silver was shocked for a split second, before tiredly giggling, just like Kalim would do if it happened to him. The other boy stayed silent, having an expression of surprise on his face. After a while, Silver noticed, raising his brow.
“Is everything alright?”
“Hm? Oh- Yeah! Just..” Kalim lightly blushed, “You have a lovely smile, Silver. I’m sure you’ve heard that before but..”
Silver also blushed, “I.. Y-You too, Kalim. Your smile is very nice.” he blurted out. Kalim only blushed more, giggling. He quickly pulled Silver back up, seeming a little more bashful than usual.
“We should probably get back to our dorms, huh?” Kalim said, scratching the back of his neck. Silver nodded, glancing down at the ground before averting his eyes back at his.. Friend.
“Hey, Kalim.”
“Hm?”
“Can we… do this again?” Silver mumbled, blushing a lot more than before. “.. Hang out, just the two of us.”
Kalim nodded, “Y-Yes! I would love to.. Hang out again. Like this.” He smiled at Silver, a lot more softly than the other times. Silver returned the soft smile.
“Can we.. discuss that more tomorrow though? If I stay out here any later, Jamil’s definitely going to notice that I ran off, and I don’t really feel like getting lectured~” Kalim stated, “I’ll see you tomorrow!” He quickly ran off, leaving Silver standing on his own.
“I should probably get back too..” He told himself, “If the old man asks where I’ve been, I think I might doze off out of embarrassment….” He sighed, making his way back too. Despite his words, he enjoyed tonight. He hoped he would have more nights like this for as long as he lives, with Kalim by his side… Yes. That’s a new goal now. Enjoy every time spent with Kalim. That would be easy for him, anyways.
