Bakit hindi lumalawak ang suporta sa kaliwa?
Sobrang pagka-purist. Konting disagreement lang, kaaway ka na agad. Mas mahalaga pa sa kanila ang pagiging ideologically pure kaysa maging relevant sa totoong buhay.
Imbes na mag-organisa at makipag-ugnayan sa masa, inuubos nila ang oras nila sa kakadebate sa mga liberal at moderate. Lahat na lang may “ideological failure.” Puro call-out pero walang reach-out.
Hindi nila sinasalita ang lenggwahe ng mga tao. Laging jargon, laging high theory, at laging quoting ng mga dead white guys. Eh ‘yung masa, gutom, pagod, at walang oras para sa mga complicated na ideya.
Medyo intellectual elitist din. Kapag hindi mo alam ang “tamang line,” parang tinitignan ka na agad na bobo o reactionary. Kaya tuloy, maraming potential allies na umaatras o nadidismaya.
Sa totoo lang, parang mas gusto pa nilang magmukhang radical online kaysa magpakababa at makinig. Revolutionary cosplay, pero hindi nga nila alam kung sino ang mga jeepney driver sa barangay nila.
Resulta? Echo chamber. Paikot-ikot lang sa parehong grupo, walang mass support, at walang koneksyon sa komunidad. Parang isang club ng mga frustrated theorists kaysa sa kilusang pang-masa.
Kung gusto talaga nila ng pagbabago, kailangan ng humility. Makipag-usap, makinig, at mag-adjust. Hindi puro purity test. Ang masa, hindi checklist. Tao sila na may pangangailangan, galit, at pangarap.
Revolution isn’t a fashion statement. Messy, slow, at nangangailangan ng empathy, hindi ego.

Da fire and da funk. Kaliwa has finally come to the Wharf DC. Filipino, Korean, and Thai cuisine, cooked by an Irish chef, helmed by a strong Filipina mama, and run by some of my favorite people.
