Google Glass, Wearables & the Future of Video
Antonio Zugaldia, our CTO, attended Kaltura Connect - the Video Experience Conference. The event was the fourth of its kind comprised of speakers, workshops and a weekend hackathon held in New York City. The event featured discussions on building video technologies, web video experiences and shaping the future of web video.
As one of the keynote speakers, Antonio joined dozens of inspiring leaders in digital media and discussed endless possibilities to improve video uses. He used Google Glass as an example of a wearable device that can capture and share video in unique ways.
As an experienced developer for wearable technology, he exposed several challenges when you design applications for wearable devices. He demonstrated that it is important to be “wearable first” in that you have to rethink and redesign your application to fit the wearable device. User expectations for the new device will be different, and therefore your design must meet those expectations.
Another challenge that he mentioned is that wearables are truly fragmented. Smart watch, google glass and other wearable devices do not have a common platform requiring further adaptation to accommodate the technology.
Antonio illustrated that wearable technology is newly emerging, but it is here to stay. The new technology has the potential to enhance video experience to be a more personal one.
