Kamondo Stairs . The Kamondo Stairs was built by Abraham Salomon Camondo during the 1870s. The Camondos were a prominent Sephardic Jewish family who moved to Istanbul after Austrians took over Venice in 1798. They established a bank, and one of the brothers served as the empire’s primary banker until the Imperial Ottoman Bank was founded in 1863. Abraham built the stairs to help his children get to school more easily, and the purpose of the stairs’ hexagonal shape is thought to have been to keep his children from falling further down the steps incase they would slip. The lives of the last members of the Camondo family were extinguished at Auschwitz. #istanbulturkey #istanbul #karaköy #türkçe #kamondostairs #galatatower #visitbeyoğlu #beyoğlu #beyoğlulife #taksim #taksimistanbul #beyoğluistanbul #kamondomerdivenleri #camondo (at Kamondo Stairs) https://www.instagram.com/p/CKQdQBJg0Js/?igshid=it565tkl3pst
