It wasn’t as if she had never had a bodyguard before. Even before the title of EMPRESS had been granted to her. She remembers some fondly more than others; ones too cold for a young child that made her feel afraid, not safe. Some that took the time to give her a smile whenever she was uneasy, or a friendly wink. There were hardly any words exchanged, however, and that was fine.
She understood the importance of their job.
“...”
What she doesn’t understand, however, was the necessity of having a bodyguard in her own castle. One that was too high ranked–by her logic–to even bother with such a menial task. But she does not question her husband (he had his reasons, she told herself, reasons that would make her on edge), and allows it to be done. It would only be for a few days, a few days of ruling the throne by herself as he dabbles in war, and things will move back at a steady pace.
“I remember you.” she says quietly, realization striking her after looking at his face for so long. Sonia sets her teacup down on the table; shifting in the antique lounge chair and relaxing her posture ever so slightly.
“You shadowed me for a day, did you not? It is hard to forget someone with such an aura as yours.”
