Day 1 in Maui: on the way to Paia, Moris and I stopped at the Kanaha Ponds State Wildlife Sanctuary in Kahului for another round of endangered nenes (Hawaiian goose), coots, and stilts. Once fish ponds of Hawaiian royalty, then owned by a Hawaiian sugar company who donated it to the Navy during WWII, now a wildlife sanctuary under ecological restoration. After dinner in Paia, we hit one of the most beautiful beaches on the northern shore just in time to get a swim in before sunset, Baldwin Beach.
