On June 27, 1973, Roger Moore took over as James Bond from Sean Connery in Live and Let Die. It is said that Connery turned down what would be 32 million dollars by 2019 standards (5.5 million). Roger Moore was already well known for his portrayal of another iconic British character The Saint. Changes were made to distinguish him from the Connery era including not ordering the famous vodka martini shaken not stirred ( just as a note, Bond drank a wide variety of alcohol in the books and despised tea), doesn't wear a hat in the gun barrel scene, and has a rock song for the opening. Some other things that are unique to this movie include the absence of Q/Major Boothroyd for the first time in an EON Bond film (Desmond Llewellyn was unavailable), the only time Felix Leiter appeared during the Moore era, having a Supernatural subtext, and the first time Bond had relations with a woman of color (something cut from releases from countries like South Africa). Moore was 45 when this movie was made, Sean Connery 32 in Dr No and George Lazenby was 29 when he made On Her Majesty's Secret Service. ("Live and Let Die" flm, event)
