The vehicle was stolen from inside the base, the third one Zoe had tried before it finally started. The other two had refused to turn over, clicking miserably before she gave up and moved on. Whether or not this one would continue to run was something she wasn’t willing to bet on yet, which was why she’d left it running even after driving it through the gates.
It’d been quieter, almost normal since the tower fell, even if there were monsters always at their doors. The base settling into something more like how the world used to be, people just living their lives, with the added responsibility of patrolling a gate. Still, there’s still black embers on the ground from the bonfire that had lit up the night sky, a celebration of life that had still felt foreign to her. But now that was over, and she’d move on.
Whether or not anyone else came with her.
It’s not a thought she dwells on now, easier to occupy herself with the demands of necessity first and foremost. And right now that involves the vehicle she’s chosen for herself, hood popped, one foot braced on the tire as she peers down at the JLTV. At least until she hears someone else, tipping her head back to focus on him. "Hey.” She offers the quick greeting, stepping down off the tire. “What are you up to?”
