I’ve been binge watching videos from the account Wedding Dance Online on YouTube and I can’t stop thinking about this idea that I have that Kaz and Inej enjoy slow dancing, and it helped them touch each other because they would be focused on the movement and not on the skin and embrace, and then overtime they would keep doing it even though they’ve gotten used to each others touch because it just feels nice. I can imagine the silence as the music plays in their heads as they twirl through an empty room.
Kaz’s bad leg obviously plays a role in all these dances but were not gunna talk about that.
Anyway, below the cut is what I think about all of these.
1) Waltz No. 2 - Dmitri Shostakovitch. This is one of my all time favorite musical pieces and I was originally going to say that they dance this at a Ravkan ball while they are visiting the King and Queen, but I leaned away from that idea in favor of a Kerch ball hosted by the merchant council that Kaz and Inej either infiltrated or were invited too, stealing obviously happens.
2) My Heart Will Go On - Celine Dion. This dance is much more intimate so I can’t imagine them doing this one in public (maybe just with Wylan and Jesper) but the lyrics make me think of them dancing on a roof by the docks just before Inej leaves for sea. She worries for his leg when he picks her up but the way he looks at her the entire time makes her melt.
3) Like I Am Gonna Lose You - Jasmine Thompson. This one happens a few hours after an argument, there was lots of shouting and their both stressed, but then Inej climbs through his window and he stands up quickly, apologizing, she forgives him and fluff ensues, then he pulls her close and they start swaying as Inej hums and it’s just so soft and beautiful.
4) You Are The Reason - Calum Scott, Leona Lewis. This is what they dance at their wedding and you can’t change my mind. I believe that Kaz and Inej have two weddings. One quiet one in Kerch, (With just their friends or all alone) and one Suli wedding in Ravka with Inej’s family. This is the one they dance at the private wedding, either all alone with nothing but their footsteps as music or with Wylan playing the piano. They dance this often and each time they are more deeply in love. One time their daughter catches them in the kitchen when she was supposed to be sleeping and marvels at the beauty of it.
5) Grow Old - Matt Cooper. This is danced much, much later on, right after they move to Lij, leaving Ketterdam in the care of their daughter, it is just so sweet and represents the start of a new life.
6) Strangers In The Night - Frank Sinatra. This is done at the Van Eck house on their anniversary, Wylan is playing guitar and Jesper is sitting beside him, laughing.
7) A Whole New World - Aladdin. I can imagine Inej’s parents watching this one on one of their visits, and are just enamored by the beauty of their daughter and her partner. At the end they both looked away because that look they shared was so intimate and they don’t want to intrude.
8) Beauty And The Beast - This song kind of reflects their relationship, honestly. “Barely even friends/then somebody bends/unexpectedly.” “Both a little scared/neither one prepared/Beauty and the Beast.” I can imagine that there at a little celebration with some of the most loyal Dregs (Anika, Pim, Rotty, Wylan and Jesper obviously etc.) and Inej convinces him to dance, he’s a bit embarrassed but he does it anyway, and at the beginning and end he kisses the ring on her left hand. Again, at some points the Dregs look away because the look shared is so intimate and their not used to this kind of stuff from their boss.
