The first time you ran into Kanghyun, it was a complete act of destiny. In fact, if you had waited even 5 more minutes to decide to head to the roof of the science building, you would have missed him. Alas, it seemed like the red strings of fate had other plans for the two of you.
You had forced yourself out of bed at what felt like an ungodly hour (it was only 9:30 pm) and made your way to the rooftops with your backpack and your small telescope. It was late September, which meant that you had bundled yourself up in the warmest jacket you could find, even if said jacket had sleeves that went far past your fingertips.
As you burst through the double doors that would take you onto the roof, you were surprised to find that there was somebody else already up here. He was sitting on a blanket, notebook, and pencil in hand as he bobbed his head along with a silent melody. Moving closer, you noticed that he was wearing earbuds, just slightly obscured by his brown hair.
He didn’t notice as you moved closer until you placed yourself on the ground a few feet from him. The concrete was cold, making you shiver as you swung your backpack off of your shoulder and onto the ground. You could feel the eyes of the boy on you as you began setting up your telescope and pulled out your tablet to begin taking notes.
There were a few minutes of silence, the only sounds filling the roof were those of a pencil scratching on paper, a telescope shifting its position, and the soft ambiance of nature and a college campus. It wasn’t until you shivered once again under the breeze that the man finally spoke up.
“Would you like to sit on my blanket? I can’t help but notice that you’re shivering and I can only imagine how uncomfortable and cold the concrete must be,” his voice was soft, and for a moment you thought that you had imagined it. But when you looked up and saw his soft brown eyes looking at you questioningly through the darkness, you realized that you had indeed heard him and that he was absolutely talking to you.
“Oh, thank you,” you said, before sliding your set up over and placing yourself lightly on the flannel blanket that was sprawled out. You sent him a small smile before you went back to looking into the telescope. The stars you were supposed to be looking for were a bit trickier to find than you were expecting, and you groaned as you looked back at your tablet, searching for where the stars were supposed to be tonight.
“What are you looking for tonight?” The boy asked, taking one of his earbuds out as he shifted to get a look at your tablet. You scooched it a little closer to him, showing him the list of stars that you were supposed to be observing and the one you were trying to find: Regulus.
The boy smiled happily to himself as he read the words, before looking at your telescope as if waiting for permission. You gave a nod, scooting over so he could come a bit closer and peer into the lens. You could smell a soft scent of cologne coming off of him, and you felt yourself smile as you breathed it in, the scent relaxing your muscles as he fidgeted with the position of the telescope. Finally, he pulled away, grinning.
“There. That should be it.” You raised an eyebrow, before looking into the lens and seeing the brightly shining orb which represented Regulus. You looked at him, your eyes sparkling impossibly through the dark.
“Thank you so much. Are you an astronomy major too?” You asked. He shook his head, chuckling as he moved back to where he had been sitting previously.
“No, I’m actually a music major. I just really love the stars. It’s a special interest, I guess you could call it. My name is Kanghyun.” He held out his hand and you took it, reveling in the softness of his palm and the blistered tips of his fingers.
“My name is Y/N. If you’re not an astronomy major, what brings you to the roof on such a cold night?” you asked. Kanghyun motioned down to the notebook that was sitting in his lap, giving you a small smile.
“I’m actually writing a song for my band right now. The stars are my biggest inspiration, so I come up here to write,” he explained. Your eyes widened slightly in excitement at his words.
“That’s really cool! Has your band played around campus? Maybe I’ve heard you guys!” you asked. Kanghyun smiled as he shook his head.
“We haven’t played on campus yet, but we have played a few times at the bar downtown. You should definitely come sometime, the more the merrier,” Kanghyun said, thankful for the night sky that covered the blush resting on his cheeks. You nodded enthusiastically, before turning back to your telescope to begin working on your project. Kanghyun sat beside you, humming melodies and jotting down notes and lyrics. It was a peaceful atmosphere, one that surprised both of you considering you were practically strangers.
Once the moon was high in the sky and the loud noises of the campus below began to dwindle, you and Kanghyun bid goodbye to one another, heading to your respective dorms with a hazy and fuzzy mind.
The second time you met Kanghyun, was on purpose. Your friend, Goeun, had revealed to you that she often saw Kanghyun head to the cafe after their music class. Normally, you wouldn’t have done anything with that info, but you wanted to get Kanghyun’s thoughts on your paper so far, considering he seemed to like the stars.
So you headed to the cafe on campus and, sure enough, found Kanghyun sitting at a table with his notebook out and headphones in. You tapped him lightly on the shoulder, trying your best to not startle him, before smiling and sitting down across from him.
“Hi! Sorry for bothering you, but I wanted to know if you could read my essay so far? I have to turn it in at the end of the week and I really need a proofreader,” you explained, trying to calm your beating heart before it came right out of your chest,
“Oh, of course!” Kanghyun said, a small smile slipping onto his face as you let out a relieved sigh and slid your laptop over to him so he could read your paper. You watched with fascination as Kanghyun read the lines on your laptop, making you smile when you noticed how his eyebrows furrowed slightly in concentration and he began to bite his lip a little.
Finally, his head shot up and he gave you an approving smile.
“It’s really good, Y/N. I noted some grammatical stuff and where I think the words could flow a little better, but overall, I think that it gets your point across well,” Kanghyun advised. You nodded, listening intently to his notes as he pointed things out to you, making notes on what to fix and what to revise.
You had barely noticed that an hour had gone by until Kanghyun’s phone began to ring. He looked at the caller ID, then the time, before practically jumping out of his chair.
“Oh my gosh, I’m gonna be let to practice. I have to go, I’m so sorry!” Kanghyun explained, rushing to gather his things. You stood up as well, reaching out to take his arm and pause him for a moment. He looked at your hand, then at you, with a look of confusion.
“Can I have your number? In case I need more advice or something?” you asked, avoiding contact as you held your phone out cautiously with the other hand. Kanghyun looked at you, before smiling warmly and nodding. He typed away his phone number, before handing the device back to you and waving a rushed goodbye.
You stood there for a moment, almost in shock that you had actually succeeded in getting the cute music majors number, before shaking yourself out of it and heading back to your own dorm.
The third time you met Kanghyun, it was at the bar in town that he had told you his band played at. You had been texting each other for weeks after you had met at the cafe and finally, Kanghyun had told you (after countless pestering from you) that he and his band were going to be playing and that you should come to watch.
So there you stood amongst the fairly large crowd, a drink in your hand as you waited for the concert to start. A few people around you took to chatting and you gladly joined, before pausing once you heard the crowd begin to lull as the lights on the stage flicker on.
Cheers suddenly erupted from all around as 5 boys walked on stage, the only one you recognized being Kanghyun as he walked to the right side of the stage to get his guitar set up and plugged in. He looked so much different than the Kanghyun you were used to, with his hair all rustled up, his black button-up showing a bit of his chest as a metal chain rested around his neck.
You felt your cheeks heat up as Kanghyun scanned the crowd, making eye contact with you, before smiling gently at you. The singer, a tall boy with brown hair that you think was Yonghoon, was speaking but you were too busy staring in awe at Kanghyun.
As they began the concert, playing a song that you remember being titled Aurora, you couldn’t take your eyes off of the music major boy that was in front of you. He was completely in his element, the shy and introverted persona melting away to reveal a cocky and confident guitarist. His golden skin shined in the light and he would smirk occasionally as he played, taking the breath straight from your lungs.
They played a few more songs, each one more breathtaking than last when finally Kanghyun approached his own microphone with a small smile. He took a moment to catch his breath, basking in the glow and happiness that filled the stage of the bar.
“This next song is something I’ve been working on for a while. It was inspired by a girl that I met recently and I didn’t want to play it until she could be here to listen to it. I hope that she likes it as much as I like her. Here’s Regulus,” Kanghyun said, his eyes lingering on you. You felt yourself freeze as you tried to comprehend what Kanghyun had just said, but your thoughts were quickly interrupted as the song began.
Your eyes were glued to Kanghyun as the simple melody began, the words ringing clear in your ears as you finally began to piece together that the song was about you.
Kanghyun had written a song about you.
When the song was finally over, you were beaming. The crowd was going crazy but you were just smiling like an idiot at Kanghyun as the group said their goodbyes and headed off stage. You weaved through the crowd before stumbling upon the group behind the stage, packing away their equipment.
“Y/N?” You looked up as your name was said, your eyes locking with Kanghyun who had stood up from his guitar case, eyebrows furrowed. You looked at him, before rushing forward and pressing your lips to his.
You felt him mumble in surprise, but you didn’t let go as you wrapped your arms around his neck, smiling against his lips when he weaved his hands around your waist to pull you closer.
As you pulled away, eyes sparkling from how happy you were, Kanghyun smiled at you.
“I take it you like the song?” You rolled your eyes, before pulling him back into a kiss. Kanghyun kissed you back, ignoring the way his bandmates whistled and clapped from around him. Right now, in his universe, it was only him and you; his Regulus.

well done !! you just made him the happiest man a man could be ~ have fun trying to erase that smile from his face because it’s not going anywhere for a week tops. our amazing leader loves attention and little shows of affection like this, he thrives on it. for him, it’s like a sign everything in the relationship is going well and that you still love him and think about him lots. I think yonghoon is the type to worry about this stuff so a surprise kiss would reassure him probably more than words could ever do. he would be sitting at his desk late at night brainstorming lyrics and tapping his pens to form melodies when you sneak up behind him and place a big fat smooch on the side of his cheek. yonghoon would jump in surprise because he thought you wouldn’t be home for a while but then immediately soften when the scent of your favourite fragrance finally reached him. he leaned back in his chair, tilting his head up to reach your eyes with the cutest eye smile you’ve ever seen. “someone must have missed me?” he said we a jokingly sweet tone while staring up into your eyes swearing he could see stars. yonghoon lives for domesticity like this, he’s so glad that you feel comfortable enough to just go up and do that. trust him to randomly go up to you no matter the situation and give you quick pecks and smooches (if he didn't already do it) before you guys fall into a calm conversation about your days, he would tap his neck and make kissy noises hoping you would get the point and do it again.
“how was your day darling? i didn’t hear you come in. just give me five minutes and i’ll be all yours for the night, wait before that... would you mind if you gave me another kiss?”

oh, oh, OH !! a surprise kiss will turn harin into the shyest tiger bub you could imagine. it would 100% catch him off guard and throw him off track from whatever task he was attempting. his cheeks would turn the brightest of red when you came up behind him when he was washing the dishes after dinner and placed kisses down his neck then the exposed skin on his back. everyone knows harin is so soft and sweet but for you, the love of his life? i mean it when i say he will do everything and anything for you. he is an absolute goner. and when you nuzzled your head deeper into him, your cheek pressing against his back he just sighed blissfully, slowly coming to terms with how relentlessly lucky he got, meeting and dating you. he would make sure to finish the dishes as quickly as possible (maybe dropping one of them in excitement oops). once free from the chore, this man ain't leaving you alone for the rest of the day, good luck trying to detach him from your side. harin is just an over-grown human koala. he would attack you with kisses all over making you squeal because it tickles! and because of that, he would start laughing and harin's laughter can bring world peace. harin is just filled with so much love and adoration for you and this just confirms you love him all the same ~
"what was that for lovely? did i do anything special to deserve this special attention?" harin mused and dried his hands so he could wrap his arms around your waist.
"nothing in particular just felt right..."
"that must make me a very lucky man doesn't it, i don't deserve you bub don't i?"

we all know how much of a bookworm hyungu is, so it wouldn't be surprising when you catch him curled up in bed early with one of his current reads. hyungu doesn't flinch when he feels a dip in the mattress nor does he when he feels your hot breathe fall from his cheek to below his white tank top. thinking you just want to cuddle he tells you to let him finish the chapter, his eyes not wavering from the book. what he didn't expect was for you to place a light peck on the skin underneath his eye then moved to ghost his lips before diving in and giving him a short but passionate kiss. just after you tell him you were going to the kitchen for snacks and leaving him on the bed alone with heart going 150mph. this would leave hyungu a malfunctioning and blubbering mess as you rendered him speechless. one part of him felt like he hadn't been giving you enough attention or there was something on your mind that you weren't telling him. or did he maybe do something special that he wasn't aware of? were you in a really good mood, why? all these questions would plague him until you entered the room again and he asked if you were okay in a very serious voice. "you can tell me anything you know..." he said taking your hand in his and rubbing your palm. you were extremely confused at this gesture and said you were feeling fine. "then what was that kiss about?" he questioned at this point as confused as you. "no reason, just loved you and missed you." such a cheesy shy grin would adorn his features, and he would giggle not looking down at your hands, too flustered to face you upfront. warmth rose throughout his chest as he feels that had just struck him clean through the heart. with you hyungu had never felt so loved and appreciated. honestly, you were the best thing to happen to him. long after you had fallen asleep nestled into his side, hyungu made mental notes on little ways to express his infinite love and adoration for you, and you show that all though he may not show it, he's just as enamoured with you as you are with him.
"my love is full of surprises, aren't they? my days would be so much darker without you y/n-ah."

you'd try to catch him off guard with a kiss? you don’t know the war you have just started with this boy... what just started with a quick peck on the side of his cheek while he was getting ready for the day turn into a full-blown kissing war that seemed to get more intense and passionate with each sneaky kiss. he relished in catching you by surprise and in comprising moments. hell you could be calling your mum and bam! wild son dongmyeong on your lips. kissing is dongmyeong primary way of showing his affection (apart from words ofc) so a little kissing war is right up his alley. from watching tv, to tending to household chores, on the way out the door and when you were snuggling into bed ready for the night, were all perfect opportunities to get each other back for each kiss and the one after that and the one after that and- (you can see where this is going, you two might just be attached at the lips at this point). even when he had to go for band practice at random points during the session he’d send you heart emojis and sweet texts saying how much he missed you (and your lips). the boy is, was and forever will be lovestruck for you, i can not stress this enough!! surprises, in general, affirm that fact that you think about him a lot and obviously care a lot as well. these are two things i think dongmyeong really values in a relationship. the day would probably end out with a cute little make-out session after both of you are done with the day's activities. before you drift off dongmyeong would whisper “i won~” in your ear before trying to find sleep himself. he didn’t just mean winning the war of kisses, he also meant winning in life because he had the best person on planet earth all for himself.
“that’s 13 to me and 11 to you sunshine !! hmm seems like someone has some catching up to do… oh! and you also have something on your lips right there-”
*proceeds to kiss you for a bit longer than usual leaving you absolutely breathless*
“i think that makes it 14 to 11.”

shy and flustered hamster to the power of two !! as the maknae who normally receives lots of skinship from his hyungs you’d think a surprise kiss wouldn’t affect him that much. however, when it comes to you throw that idea out of the window, bubs would be a stuttering cute mess, almost confused and dazed-like, like hyungu. when you crept up on his while he was changing the broken strings on his base he felt your presence behind him, but being used to this sort of closeness he didn’t mind it. but when you stooped down to his level and quickly swooped in for a sweet kiss right on his lips his eyes would immediately dart up and his pupils would dilate into moons. his mouth would be an o-shape as he stared up at you before turning beet red. if it was around other people he would probably feign being slightly annoyed but deep deep down he loves it more than you’ll ever know. it would be a quiet reassurance that you’re still there and love him as always. but when you’re alone there’s no doubt in the fact he’ll definitely ask you to kiss him again. your spontaneity gives him something to look forward to when has time to spend with you. a reminder that his and your youthful banter is something to be love and treasured.
"ah baby... not here please, see harin hyung is laughing at me now. you're cute but not THAT cute, and don't take that in the wrong way. you can give me loads of kisses when i'm done with this okay?"
(hope you enjoyed sorry again the wait was so long !!)
You’ve been staring at the huge rainbow cotton candy stand at the side of the road for minutes now, a certain longing for the colorful snack not only in your eyes but also deep in your heart. That’s when Hyungu waves his hand close in front of your face to tear you out of your daze and you flinch, looking over at his slightly amused face. “Focus on me when I’m talking to you!” he complains, a pout on his lips, but the mischievous glint in his eyes tells you he’s just messing with you. Still, you apologize, send the cotton candy one last longing glance, and then turn to him. “Let’s go,” you say, ready to leave and go to your actual destination, but Hyungu holds you back. “You want one?” he asks, pointing at the snack vendor and you shoot him big pleading eyes. Without having to answer his question, he smiles at your cuteness and takes you by the hand to walk over to the stand. He orders the biggest one for you and pays for it, and when the vendor hands you your cotton candy, you feel pure excitement in your chest. Grinning from ear to ear, you start eating the sweet snack, and then you pick out a bite and feed it to Hyungu. You lean over to kiss his cheek, thanking him. “No need to thank me,” he says after finishing the bite. “Seeing you so happy is thanks enough.”
you panted as you reached in front of your now new home with your heavy luggage.
due to your current project, it was easier for you to move somewhere closer to your work place. you found a perfect place.
a boarding house. the rent was just nice and the reviews were quite good too.
"ah y/n ! welcome! i am Yonghoon, the one you contacted through Instagram.". a tall guy greeted you with a wide smile.
you greeted him back and walked towards him with your belongings.
Yonghoon helped you out with your things and invited you in.
"you can take your shoes off here and wear any of the slippers. anything that you're comfortable with.".
you thanked him and followed Yonghoon in.
the boarding house had two levels. 2 rooms in level one together with the kitchen and living room. it was quite spacious. level 2 had 4 rooms.
you were relieved because Yonghoon gave you the room with its own bathroom. he said they usually prioritised ladies for those rooms.
as Yonghoon explained, there were currently 5 people living there, including you. 3 guys and 2 ladies.
"I'm the oldest, Aya is a year younger than me but i'm sure you could get along well with her. Harin is the same age as you, and also-- ahh!! speaking of the devil! Hyungu, come here and greet our new housemate!". Yonghoon cut his own introduction as the named boy entered the house.
Hyungu blinked in confusion as he walked towards the older guy and you.
the moment he saw you, Hyungu looked at you from head to toe and frowned. he only bowed a little and excused himself back into his room upstairs.
you gulped and looked down. *i have an enemy here already?*. you thought.
you quickly looked up when you heard Yonghoon chuckle.
"don't worry, Hyungu is just really shy and awkward. he doesn't really know how to act around people he is not close to,". Yonghoon explained.
you only nodded and persuaded yourself to feel comforted.
~
it's been almost 2 weeks since you've stayed in the warm boarding house. just like Yonghoon said, you get along well with Aya.
she was so happy when she heard they were going to get another lady housemate. Aya treated you like her own younger sister.
it's only been a while but Aya had been pampering you with food and invited you to go shopping with her where she would actually pay for your things too. Aya was that happy to have you.
you also became closer with Harin because of your same age. Harin was very friendly and welcoming. if you'd known each other sooner, the both of you probably would have been bestfriends.
Yonghoon was like the dad of the family, he made you feel secure in the cozy house.
that leaves you one more person. i mean housemate. Kang Hyungu.
you've tried talking to him during breakfast and dinner but he would always respond with body language or give you short answers.
Hyungu would always look down everytime he encountered you.
you didn't know what you did wrong but you really wanted to be friends with him. so you tried hard .
"Hyungu... would you like some coffee?".
**shakes his head**
"Hyungu, do you know where the vacuum is?".
**points to the store room**
"Hyungu.... do you like flowers?".
**nods**
"oohh, which flowers?".
"cherry blossoms."
you were so happy when you heard his voice. although it was short, he still talked.
you thought you've finally made progress.....
"Hyungu, do you want to go grocery shopping with me and Harin?". you asked softly as you approached Hyungu who was playing with his phone at the dining table.
Hyungu shook his head and quickly stood up to go back to his room.
you pouted and wanted to go tell Harin but you stopped on your tracks when you heard Harin's laugh.
his voice came closer to the kitchen and soon you saw Harin walking towards you with an arm wrapped around Hyungu's shoulder.
"he is coming with us whether he wants to or not! you eat here too so you have to help out in some ways, Hyungu..". Harin nagged in a friendly tone.
Hyungu only held his head down and nodded weakly.
you smiled and clapped your hands like a little kid. it was the first time for the three of you to hang out together. it was always you and Harin or Harin and Hyungu.
you really hoped you could get closer to Hyungu during this short trip.
to your dismay, Hyungu walked beside you quietly while Harin, as usual, talked to you about everything he could think of on the way to the market.
you had fun because of Harin but you still tried to think of ways to talk to Hyungu too.
"ah Hyungu, remember when we bought your first guitar together?". Harin suddenly asked Hyungu as he was talking to you about being a music teacher at an academy.
you thanked Harin mentally for asking Hyungu something. you faced Hyungu, anticipating his answer.
"yeah, it was chaotic. you tried to argue that the more expensive guitar was better than the guitar i bought. you really wanted me to go broke that day...".
you chuckled and shook your head. the two boys' friendship was really funny. you would listen to Harin blabber about memories of him and Hyungu.
you can't help but blush when you heard Hyungu talk for more than 2 seconds.
his voice was so soothing. it was one of the most beautiful sounds to listen to. greedy for more, you tried asking some questions too.
"woahh, how many guitars do you have now?".
Hyungu continued looking front and held up 3 fingers.
you 'ooh'ed and refrained yourself from being sad at the way he responded.
the walk back home was the same. Harin would do the talking while Hyungu was quiet and would talk only when Harin asked something.
your heart felt really heavy when you reached home. you wanted get closer to Hyungu but it felt like the both of you became more distant.
it was bothering you even after dinner. so you decided to rant out your feelings to Harin.
you sat on the floor with Harin in his room, which was next to yours.
"i don't know Harin. i just want to be friends. i don't know what i did wrong but he had been giving me the cold shoulder since the first time we met. *gasps*. do i look like his ex girlfriend or something? help me Harinnnn,". you complained.
Harin only chuckled and ruffled your hair while you pouted.
"Hyungu is just.... shy, okay? he sucks at making friends. he is stuck with me because he obviously can't live without me. i mean, have you seen him try ordering food for himself?? that kid is a mess.".
you only glared at Harin for not making you feel any better. Harin grinned and held his arms up.
"alright alright, but for real. Hyungu is a shy and awkward dude. he doesn't have any ex girlfriends so that's not it. hmmmm ah! maybe he is just shy to look at you? i mean, you're pretty cute.".
you rolled your eyes and pulled your legs up as you buried your face in between your knees. at other times you would blush but it wasn't a good time for you to be flattered.
you immediately looked up when Harin started laughing like a maniac.
"now i know the real reason!!". he exclaimed.
you blinked and tried to process Harin's words.
Harin just realised that all these while, you were wearing the purple slippers. Hyungu's purple slippers. Hyungu's favourite purple slippers.
probably that was why the first thing Hyungu did when he met you was scanning you from head to toe.
Hyungu would always look down when he sees you was probably him staring longingly at his precious slippers.
Hyungu was probably too embarrassed to tell you about the slippers because you seemed comfortable wearing them and he didn't want to be inconsiderate to you.
but all that still didn't explain why Hyungu wouldn't talk to you. so you had a plan. to try and find out his reasons. you've had enough and it was reaching your limit. you hated having enemies.
~
Hyungu opened his door slowly when he heard a knock.
he blinked in confusion when there was no one outside. but something on the floor caught his eyes.
his favourite purple slippers.
Hyungu squatted and picked up the note that was left on his slippers.
< meet me at the rooftop >
~
"beautiful isn't it? the stars..". you softly said as you admired the twinkling sky.
Hyungu walked calmly towards you and tucked his hands into his pockets.
"hmm". he hummed, enjoying the cool breeze.
"say Hyungu, why do you hate me?". you asked as you turned to face him.
you swore you saw panic in his eyes.
Hyungu for the first time, turned to look at you.
your face heated up at the sudden eye contact. Hyungu's ears turned red too.
"i--i d-don't....". he quietly replied.
you frowned and stepped closer towards Hyungu.
"i'm sorry i took your favourite slippers. but i'm sure you wouldn't ignore me or give me the cold shoulder just because of that, right? or are you.. really that uhm.... petty?".
Hyungu gulped and quickly shook his head no.
he rubbed his nape before taking in a big breath.
"i--i'm sorry for making you feel like that . yeah i'm kind of embarrassed to speak up about the slippers but i really don't mind as long as you are comfortable. i'm sorry if you felt as if i ignored you. i'm just really awkward and suck at conversations so i'd rather reply directly before i make things worse. i know this sounds like an excuse but i'm really just a mess, okay?". you blinked at his long explanation and was about to reply but his next words stopped you.
"be--besides, i'm really shy to look at you directly because you are really, very beautiful.". Hyungu shyly confessed.
you forcefully gulped your almost non-existent saliva and got yourself back together.
"so... you don't hate me?". you asked carefully.
Hyungu pouted and shook his head.
you smiled widely before laughing your heart out happily. Hyungu flashed a smile too as he saw your happy face.
"it's okay Hyungu if you're awkward. we can always try and get to know each other better in different ways. but don't ignore me, okay? i really want to be close friends with you.". you said and patted Hyungu's head.
Hyungu nodded like a little kid and held his pinky out.
"i promise.". he cutely said.
you scrunched up your nose at his actions and ruffled his hair.
you went to the rooftop door and turned back around before exiting.
"so the purple slippers? i'll give it back to you!". you teased and winked before leaving Hyungu alone on the flowery rooftop.
Hyungu watched your back go and chuckled to himself.
*to another journey of making a friend.* he thought to himself as he looked up to the beautiful sky.

a/n : sooo another ONEWE fluff ! starring Kanghyun 😍 hope you guys love it! and all credits to the rightful owner(s) for the pic!
Warnings: Hints of (former) suicidal thoughts, cheating, toxic relationship, character death, re-creating your own self (does that make sense?)
Summary: A stranger takes care of a broken hearted Kanghyun, who reveals step by step the story why he’s so sad.
Theme Song: Day6 - Congratulations
[A/N: First ofall, special thanks to Jojo, Liana, Pauli and Lou who motivated me and helped me a lot with the translation and correction. Also, thanks to the person who made that beautiful cover. Second of all, English isn’t my first language and this is the first time that I wrote in English. Please tell me if you find mistakes. Last but not least, I want to become better at writing and need some criticism. I would really appreciate if you’d tell me what you think about my OS.]
Plain truth. A truth that seemed so untrue, felt so wrong, that everything else seemed unreal too. That everything in front of my eyes became blurred. That took my safe place and let me break down. That took my breath. That destroyed me. That took away my happiness and my joy for life. With a sigh I turned off the music, took the headphones out of my ears and put them back into my pocket.
My gaze followed by a small leaf that slowly slid down into the shallow river in front of me. Single drops found their way onto the leaf and let it shine slightly in the moonlight. A full moon. Formerly a symbol for inner warmth and satisfaction. Now a fading memory which filled me with coldness and dissatisfaction.
Generally, the whole place shone with beauty. At least for others. For me it was just a grey, dreary image of pain.
“Where’s she?” An unknown voice pulled me out of my thoughts. A girl. She whispered. Why was she whispering? Who was she?
I shrugged and acted like I don’t know what she was talking about: “Who?”
She came closer. I didn’t look at her. My eyes were still fixed on the leaf. “That girl” She was still whispering.
“Which girl?” I replied, trying to sound emotionless. She sat next to me.
“You were often here together. But only when it was full moon. 25 times or something.” She took my hand but I pulled it away again.
“27 times.”, I corrected her. She took off her shoes and stuck her feet into the water below us. Goosebumps spread over her legs, which made me smile. Even when it is summer, the water is cold at night.
"2 years and 3 months. And today is the first time that you’re alone here. Why?“ She had stopped whispering. I didn’t know her, but her voice seemed familiar to me. “How do you know about it that much?” I remained emotionless. She giggled. “You’re very fixated on her, aren’t you? Another reason why it’s weird she isn’t here. I came here everyday for the last 3 years. It’s a part of my evening routine. I can’t fall asleep otherwise.” She explained to me. I looked at her. Now her eyes were on the leaf that was slowly being carried away by the slight flow of the river. Unlike me, she didn’t seem to be inhibited. Not frantic. Rather dreamy.
“Why are you even interested?” I asked confused. She just shrugged and slowly moved her feet in the water, propelling the leaf. “I’m just curious.” I sighed and ran my fingers stressfully through my hair.
“Not here.” I got up to leave, but was held on. “Please don’t go.” Just like her eyes, her voice was pleading. I just sighed again, but sat down again.
“Thank you. I didn’t want to annoy you and certainly didn’t scare you away.” I nodded because I didn’t have the strength to answer with words.
I searched the riverbed with my eyes. The leaf was already washed away by the flow of the river. Gone. Just like her. The water in front of my eyes made slight waves as small drops of water hit it. Tears. My tears.
“It’s because of her, am I right?” She put an arm around me after I nodded weakly. Yes, it was because of her. Yuri. Lee Yuri. The reason, the only reason I was here this day. The reason why I’ve been already here 27 times before. Yuri, the reason for my tears. For my pain. But at the same time someone I owe my life to.
“Will you tell me what happened?” She whispered again. “Why are you whispering?” I asked without paying any attention to her question. “To instill trust.”, she replied calmly, still whispering, “So that you feel more secure. And more welcome. To keep your inner self warm.” At the end she stopped whispering, but remained quiet and calm.
She pulled me closer to her, into her arms. I didn’t do anything against that, even though it was a strange, unfamiliar feeling. After a short time, she gently stroked my back. Enjoyable, but also unusual.
“I don’t know.” I replied after a while. This time I was the one who whispered. “What do you not know?” She asked a little confused. “Whether I’ll tell you what happened or nor.” I clarified, as I laid my head shyly on her shoulder. “That’s okay. Tell me what you want and remain silent about the things that make you feel uncomfortable. The most important thing is that you feel good.” She assured me. I put my arms around her and pulled her into a shy hug, after which she gently ruffled my hair and giggled. A slight, reserved smile crept onto my lips, which is why I finally started to recount: “We were together.”
Her movements slowed down a little bit. “You and the girl?” she inquired. I nodded and continued: “Yuri. That’s her name. Lee Yuri. She was my girlfriend.” I sighed. “My first one, I want to mention. I was used to get fooled by my friends, or rather classmates, because I was the only one who hasn’t had already a girlfriend, but that never changed anything. I just didn’t fall in love. And even if I did, I probably would have been too shy to speak to the person.”
She tightened the hug a bit, which startled me at first, but then I enjoyed the closeness and attention of another person. Even if I still didn’t want to admit it to myself, I knew that it was exactly what I needed.
“What about her? How did you get to know her?” She wanted to know. “It’s a pretty cheesy story, I think.” I uttered while I laughed shyly. “Who doesn’t like cheesy love stories?” She smiled encouragingly. Even though I wasn’t looking at her face because my head was still on her shoulder, I could hear it in her voice. “Well, that’s right...” I started a little shyly. “You probably noticed it already, but playing the guitar is a passion of mine.” She nodded. “You played here a lot for her. At least 10 times.” I smiled a little and continued talking: “13 times, to be exact. At least here.” I sighed heavily again.
“But to get back to the story, I’m already playing for years and I do it really often and I really enjoy it. Even before I knew her. I came here often when I had time. Mostly during the day, but also sometimes in the evening. Just rarely at nighttime. This place is beautiful, but probably not beautiful enough to go out in the evening. And probably too quiet for young people. There were rarely a lot of people here, if anyone was here at all. So, an almost perfect place to calm down and let your thoughts stray. I think most people feel the same way, but for me calming down means to pursue my passion, as in playing my guitar. I often covered songs. Songs that got stuck my head all day long or songs that simply described my current mood. But sometimes it happened that I just played anything. Not a special song but anything that went trough my head and that feels right in that moment. Whenever I did this, I just ignored what it sounded like and played how I felt. It was winter, about a year before we got together, when she sat down next to me. It was just evening, but since it was winter, it was already as dark as if it was midnight. Basically, it was similar to today. Full moon, dark and this place. The only difference was, that it was way colder and I had my guitar with me. Like every time during winter, I took heating pads to warm my hands in between so that it didn’t hurt when I plucked the strings. It’s because I’m this cliché guitar player who has incredibly sensitive hands.” I laughed briefly.
“Not just sensitive hands.” The girl murmured. I gave her a quick, confused look, but since she made no move to explain, I thought it would be better to just leave it at that and tell my story: “I usually go back home when those pads have cooled down. But this day it was different. I felt that it wasn’t time to leave. I didn’t want to go. So, I gritted my teeth and struggled through the pain. Of course, the pain affected my play. I often gambled away and took too much time between the individual notes until my hands were ready again. I didn’t know if she was there more often and had heard me, or maybe she just walked casually by that day. It doesn’t matter. The only important thing is she was there and she noticed something was wrong. She came to me and took my hands. Her hands were very warm and after a short while this warmth spread onto my hands. She said something like ‘Now play something for me, little Penguin!’, which of course I did.”
I closed my eyes to be able to recall the scene. The tears came again. I missed her. I missed her so much. I needed her. I still loved her.
“Why did she call you penguin?” She whispered again. Doubtless because she had noticed I started to cry. “She said I remind her of this animated penguin from that children’s series, Pingu. She wasn’t the first to feel that way. In fact, penguin was kind of an occasional nickname of mine before. However, since it has always been difficult for me to speak to people and I’ve never really had any friends, I no longer have anyone to call me that. Unfortunately.” I blushed slightly and pressed my face carefully into her shoulder.
“Hasn’t anyone ever spoke to you on their own?” She questioned incredulously. “Of course, they did. There were a few. Mostly others who were never really popular in the class or something. Sure, for what other reasons should you talk to the ‘Weirdo’ when you have another choice and can talk to someone else? But that never became a really close friendship either. I’m not usually that kind of person who talks a lot.” I laughed a little helplessly, firmly convinced she would think I’m a liar.
“I’m even more proud that you can tell me all this that detailed and comprehensive, you cute penguin.” She mentioned, clearly proud. She didn’t seem to be lying, which calmed me down but made be blush even more. “You don’t have to be embarrassed to be a cute penguin.”, she giggled.
“I am not cute.” I contradicted in a pouting tone. “Oh, you are not? And what do you want to call it that you’ve been lying in my arms and telling me about your worries for the last half an hour instead?” I shrugged. “A coward.”, I replied, “Or being stupid. After all, we don’t know each other.” She sighed and released the hug to look me in the eyes. “Hey, don’t say that. Cowards are the ones who fail to open their hearts and get help. And stupid are those who know they need and can get help, but don’t accept it. You’re not stupid because you opened your heart to a stranger.” She trembled, but her voice was firm.
“Are you cold?” I asked her, ignoring her words. “Doesn’t matter.” She responded just as firmly, but this time without trembling. “It does. I answered you, now it’s your turn. And please be honest.” She nodded hesitantly but seemed to doubt whether it was a good idea to answer. I took off my jacket and put it with the words “It’s very thin, but still better that nothing.” carefully over her shoulders. “But now you’re cold!” She protested compassionate. “That doesn’t matter. You’ve already done so much for me, I should retaliate! And girls become cold way faster than boys and freeze more, so everything is fine.” I smiled gently at her while saying that. “But then at least I want to wrap you in my arms again.” She demanded stubbornly. Softly giggling, I put my head back on her shoulder, my arms around her, and waited for her arms to do the same to me.
“Then tell me, penguin, how did you two get together?” I closed my eyes again and projected the picture back in front of my eyes. “I played something for her. Ed Sheeran’s Castle on the Hill. A wonderful song in my opinion. Like most of his songs. She felt quite the same and therefore asked me to play another song by him afterwards. Of course, I did it. I played his songs until my hands froze again. And I sang individual passages a few times as well.” My cheeks turned red again. “I really like to sing, but I don’t do it that often. I’m just too shy for that. And unlike playing the guitar, singing is just a hobby and not a passion to me. But after my hands and hers were cold like ice and I just couldn’t play the guitar anymore, we stayed here anyway. Neither me nor she left. While I was playing she leaned against me and put her head on my shoulder. I-it was kind of like what I’m doing with you right now. Only that she was sitting next to me and not that she was laying in my arms.”
I was quiet for a moment and waited for her reaction. She seemed to notice that I was waiting for something and began to stroke my back. “Cute. Did you like it as much as I do?” She asked calmly. “It was a bit weird. I never really felt the need to take care of anyone. I was never the kind of person who likes to wrap someone in my arms.” I looked up to the sky where the full moon was shining at me. “Rather the one someone takes care of? The kind of person someone wrapped in their arms?” She questioned. I nodded slowly as an answer. “That suits you a lot better.” She grinned. “And it’s better for me too.” She replied, hugging me tightly.
“Why didn’t you tell her that back then?” I shrugged. “I liked her. She was nice to me and warmed up my hands. And she was the one who started the conversation. I also was hopeful. Hopeful because I thought I might have a chance to have a friendship again. A real friendship. A close friendship. I didn’t want to mess up everything right away, so I just did things that were unusual for me.” It was quiet between us for a moment. I went through our whole story again in my mind. For the seventh time today. I relived all the feelings I had. And I wept away the tears again.
“What kind of things?” She sounded hoarse. No, she sounded like she wanted to hide something. As if she was suppressing something.
“What’s wrong?” She didn’t answer.
“Tell me what kind of things you did.” She demanded.
“Tell me what’s wrong.” I repeated.
She gave up and promised: “Later. Promise. But it’s your turn first.”
I was okay with it and started to enumerate: “You should know that after this evening we became really close friends and I wanted to maintain this friendship as long as possible. So, I took on the role of the person who started the conversation. We gave each other our phone number and after a few days on that we spent a lot of time together, I started some kind of ritual. She was the kind of person that wakes up really late while I was the kind of person that wakes up really early in the morning. So, I wished her a good morning every morning. And we had a phone call every evening. She asked me to play the guitar or to sing for her. Or just to speak, because the sound of my voice helped her a lot with falling asleep. I would be lying if I’d say that I didn’t wish something like that for myself. Someone who takes care of me and makes sure that I can fall asleep well. As I said, I’ve never seen myself in the role of the one caring for someone else. But to maintain the friendship with her, it was worth it to me. Then she was a big fan of going to some club or bar in the evening, while I preferred to go to places like this and enjoy the silence. But because I wanted to make her happy, I often came with her to those places. When we were in a relationship, we agreed that we would always spend full moons here and enjoy the silence. But in general, she was more of a fan of places where there are many people, where it was loud and especially when there was alcohol, which I don’t like at all. And she also thought that the man or boy in a relationship, whether it was a friendship or a real relationship, is the more dominant and the one who takes care of the woman or the girl. Maybe that applies to the most, but to me not at all.”
She seemed to be deep in thoughts, which I concluded from the fact that she didn’t react to my words and her movements had slowed down considerably. Since I didn’t want to disturb her, I just enjoyed the moment in silence. The warmth she gave me though the hug and the beautiful view.
“Didn’t you ever tell her you weren’t like that?” She broke the silence after a while. Still relaxed, I shook my head. “Why?” I straightened up a little and answered her question: “I liked her. I really did. So much that at some point I started loving her. More than I’ve ever loved anything or anyone. More than I’ve ever expected to love something or someone. She was the first and of course, the only girl I’ve ever fallen in love with. To whom I’ve given my heart and dedicated all my feelings. The first person to be in my thoughts all day and in my dreams all night. The first whose mere thought kept making me smile broadly and made my heart beat faster. The feelings completely overwhelmed me back then. And they still do. Just that they were beautiful back then. Even when they hurt, it was a beautiful kind of pain. Now it’s just a cruel, rough pain. A kind of pain that only tears you apart from the inside.”
The tears overwhelmed me again. Memories dragged me down again. My feelings destroyed me again. “Do you know what I noticed? You cry quietly, without any noise. How do you do that?” I looked up. She was right. I had never noticed by myself. “I-I just let the tears flow. I don’t know. I-it just h-happens. Why do you ask?” I stuttered. “To distract you so that you stop crying, Pingu.” She responded honestly. It worked. No sooner had I thought about anything else than my feelings ceased to destroy me. At least they stopped destroying me that much.
“How did you know that would work?” I mumbled in her ear. She smiled slightly. “I have a little sister and I often had to make her feel better. Do you want to take a break from talking?” I nodded cautiously. She let go of me and I sat next to her.
“What’s your name actually?” I wanted to know. “Lian. Wang Nai Lian.” She replied immediately, as if she had been waiting to finally answer this question. “Taiwanese, right?” I asked.
“You’re right. And you’re Korean, right, Hyungu?” I swallowed as it froze down my back. “How do you know my name?” I trembled slightly with fear. I was sure I didn’t say my name once in the whole conversation.
“Later.” She said firmly. I nodded. At first just slowly, as a sign that I agreed, then a little faster, in response to her question about my nationality.
“It’s beautiful here.” She whispered after a few minutes of silence, looking up at the sky. “You’re so right.” I agreed. She put an arm around me and pulled me back a little. “Are you ready to tell me more? Or do you need some more time?” I shook my head and assured her: “I’m ready.” I played nervously with a few blades of grass next to me and let my feet hang back into the water.
“How did you get together?” I rowed slightly with my feet in the water to create a soothing splash. “We were here. Two years and three months ago. 26 full moons ago. I had my guitar with me and played some love songs for her. Self-composed. At the moment when I played them, she didn’t know that yet. I had long considered what to do and how to tell her about my feelings. However, the moment she smiled at me and told me how beautiful the song was, I knew that my plan had failed. From that moment on, I just let everything happen and followed my heart. I did what my feelings told me. I blushed and looked shyly at the floor. She pushed my face up a bit at the chin and smiled at me. A simple smile. It triggered so much in me. My cheeks literally exploded at that moment and I was sure I looked like a tomato. My heart started racing. It got so fast I was sure it was already unhealthy. But all of the sudden it became a minor issue. In general, everything seemed to just to disappear. I’ve read so many romance novels and watched so many cheesy movies, but I’ve always suspected that all of this was completely over the top. It wasn’t. Not a bit. On the contrary, it was completely understated. Everything around us disappeared. The sounds echoed away from us. The only ones left were her and myself. How we looked at each other. I looked in her beautiful, golden brown eyes and she in mine. I looked on her pink, soft lips and she on mine. She was beautiful. But I’m sure you know that since you’ve seen us together several times. But that day, from that day on, it was different. She was more beautiful. I’ll never be able to forget this picture. How the moon shone through her brown curls and lit up half of her face. I don’t know how it happened, it just did. I kissed her. I never expected having the courage to overcome my shyness and just kiss her. But I did. And she returned the kiss. It was the most beautiful feeling of my life and more beautiful than I could have ever imagined. It wasn’t a long kiss, but a beautiful one. But no sooner it had ended and my shyness returned. I realized what I have done. What would’ve happened if she hadn’t wanted to? I would’ve lost her. Probably forever.”
I dug my fingernails into my shirt to keep myself from crying. “But luckily that wasn’t the case. She returned the kiss, as well as she did my feelings.”
I looked shyly at the floor. “It was my first kiss. I didn’t know how it worked. How to kiss. How to kiss well! But I’m glad I did. That it happened.” I smiled lightly at the floor and felt my heart floating again when I remembered it. Seconds after that I was back on the ground and realized that all of that was over, I continued:
“The relationship with her was probably the best as well as the worst that could’ve happened to me.” I took a short breath, in which Lian asked, why. “I was no longer myself. No, worse. I had forgotten who I am. I loved her more than anything else and I didn’t want to lose her or risk that she could start liking me less. So, I started acting and talking like the way she likes the most. I replaced my real self. My real personality. And created a new self. A different one. A better one. At least for her. Not for me, not a bit. But it didn’t matter. It took its time, but after a while I got used to being a different person. Started ignoring the pitiful cries of my real inner self. And I started ignoring the pain…”
“You were in pain? What pain?” She interrupted me a bit upset. I affirmed this with a short, gentle nod before continuing my speech: “Pressure, pain, whatever you want to call this. I wasn’t myself. I was no longer in control of my actions. I suppressed myself, the real me. Of course, it hurt. Incredibly painful. You can’t imagine how bad.”
I leaned back a little and rested on my hands. “Can’t I?” She asked somewhat skeptically. I closed my eyes.
“Maybe. Maybe you can, maybe you can’t. Why?” I replied.
“Later.”, she said calmly, “After you finish talking.” I smiled a little. “Well, the pain was definitely unbearable.”, I resumed my story, “But not as cruel as the thought of living without her. I forgot my pain. Which doesn’t mean that it disappeared or I managed to hide it. But I forgot the cause of my pain. Just as I had forgotten myself before. I just wanted to be the way Yuri liked me the most. Because she meant everything to me. And she did a lot for me too! She supported me in one of the hardest times of my life. I would even say the hardest right after the current one. If not the roughest in general.”
I looked up at the sky. “Beautiful.”, I sighed heavily, “Just beautiful.” Lian put an arm around me and mildly stroked my shoulder. “What did she help you with, Pingu?” She tried to hide it, but her concern was clear in her voice.
“I had a sister.” I said even though it was very difficult to say. My head fell down and I started sobbing loudly.
“You h-had a sister? Pingu, why had? What do you mean by that? What happened?” She sounded surprised. Very surprised. And shocked. A normal reaction. But something bothered me about it. Something wasn’t right. Something was wrong.
I pushed these thoughts away for now and concentrated on calming down again. “Yes. I had a sister. Hyejin, that was her name, was born sick. Her heart was weak. Too weak. She spent her entire childhood in the hospital for some kind of surgery. It was finally over a few years ago. She came out on her 15th birthday, but we had to be careful that she was hardly exposed to stress, as it could have been problematic otherwise. And we did! Every evening when she couldn’t sleep or just wanted me to stay by her side, I played her one of her favorite songs on the guitar.”
Tears streamed down my face. “Often it was sad songs. Songs that were about death. We knew she wouldn’t live as long as normal people. Me and our parents knew that. We tried to keep it a secret from her. In vain, of course. But how should that even be possible? She received extra treatment all her life. She got private lessons, although we could hardly afford it. How could she feels normal about such things and have no idea?” I narrowed my eyes.
“But she also asked me to play her love songs. She often told me she wanted a relationship before she died. Or at least a friendship.” I swallowed. “I always told her that I was her friend. That always made her smile and she always assured me I was the best friend she could ever imagine. It meant so much to me. More than anything else at this point. But sometimes she asked about songs I had composed myself. She knew I didn’t have many of them because I rarely write them down, but rather play by feeling. Sometimes she asked about that. Whenever she noticed something was going wrong in my life. She always looked after me, although that was my job with her. That’s why she sometimes asked for songs I had composed myself. She knew how shy and self-critical I was and she always assured me that the song, just like my guitar playing, was beautiful. Our parents had barely time for us because they worked so much to be able to afford private lessons. That’s why Hyejin and I always took care of each other. We had a lot of late-night conversations, where mostly one special question came up. ‘Will mom and dad be happier when I’m gone?’ She always asked me. You can’t blame her, because our parents had lots of stress because of her illness. But every time she asked, I promised her, and I was 100% honest, that our parents love her and are happy she exists. And even if not, I could never be really happy again if she were no longer my cute little sister. But then came the day when I had to start studying and move out. I barely had time for Hyejin. It broke my heart. I just wanted to be with her again. Hug her. And play the guitar for her. Our parents got into arguments more and more often and I wasn’t there to help Hyejin. It was my duty as a big brother! But that wasn’t everything. A short time before our parents broke up, it must have been about sixth month ago, Hyejin and I got into an argument. Because of my behaviour. She accused me of no longer being myself. And in a way, she was right. At that point, however, I no longer noticed it myself. And since she never liked Yuri, I just thought that’s the reason back then. Shortly after our parents broke up, s… she…”
I started crying softly but also violently. “I-it was all my fault. I s-shouldn’t have left her alone. I should’ve been there for her. I had to s-support her. B-but I was so stupid and didn’t do it. I didn’t notice it! I-I should’ve thought about how hard it would hit her!” I stuttered.
Lian softly stroked my back and tried to calm me down: “Hey… Hyungu… Don’t say that. It wasn’t your fault.” She looked at me pityingly and carefully wiped the tears from my face. “You did everything for her, you were a great brother.” She added.
I shook my head wildly and felt my heart break again. The second time that day. “She is dead! And I could’ve prevented that if I hadn’t been such an idiot and just been there for her! But no! And instead of simply accepting the pain as punishment, I let Yuri comfort me! No wonder she’s gone! I should’ve just followed Hyejin as I wanted to at first.”
Lian stared at me in shock. Even more shocked than before. “No! Pingu! Stop that right now, you SHOULD live! That’s important to ME! That’s important to Hyejin! It’s important to everyone who matters!” She almost shouted.
“Stop talking like you know me or Hyejin right now! Just stop! You barely know me and don’t know her at all!” I hissed unintentionally. It just happened, against my will. I was startled. Scared of myself. “I-I’m sorry.” I stammered when I realize what I had done. The only person to whom I seemed to begin to mean something, and perhaps the only one I would ever mean anything to again. She looked at me. But neither surprised nor angry, but understanding.
“No. It’s okay. You’re nerve-wracked, your emotions are killing you and you can’t possibly know about it. It’s okay. Just tell me, should I go or should I stay? Do you want to be alone or have someone to stay with you? Do you want to go on with speaking or take rest?”
I slid a little closer to her. “Is that okay?” I asked. She nodded and smiled briefly at me. “Please stay. And if it’s okay, I would still like to tell the end.” I responded. “Of course, it is. More than that. I’m glad about it. Besides that, I was the one who asked, wasn’t I? So, tell me, how could this, at least for her dreamlike relationship end?” Lian smiled softly, which I could only return weakly.
I took a deep breath and ended my story: “She cheated on me. For 9 months. That’s a third of our entire relationship. And I just didn’t notice it. No, worse. After I found out, she promised me it would never happen again, and after a few weeks in that we took a break of our relationship we approached each other again, she broke the promise right on the first day. Today. And as the idiot I am, I trusted her and thought she’d still love me. Just me.” I rubbed my eyes, but had stopped crying again and didn’t start again.
“She’s a bitch.” Lian said coldly, drilling her fingernails faintly into my shoulder. I swallowed because of the pain, whereupon she looked at me apologetically and loosened her grip a little bit.
“Maybe. Maybe she is. No, probably she is. But at least I am rid of this monster now and can be Kang Hyungu in peace again.”, I agreed, “Even if it will take time until I forget her or can get over her.”
Lian grunted understandingly. “Obviously it will. But you can do it, even if it takes time. And I will support you.” She promised in a firm and serious voice. I looked at her gratefully with a hint of joy.
“But I guess it’s my turn to tell. I actually don’t have a lot to say and will be brief if that’s okay.” She giggled. I gave her a quick approval and then looked at her waiting and asking.
“Well, where do I start? So, as I said, I also have a sister. Also, a younger one. About the same age as Hyejin. Her name is Tzuyu. When you said Hyejin had no one, you weren’t quite right. Shortly after you were gone, she met Tzuyu. They’ve been to our home many times and Hyejin has told us a lot of good things about you. She almost always talked about you and there was never a bad word. Just about your girlfriend. She suspected that she wasn’t entirely loyal. And that killed her. She was worried about you. She just wanted you to be happy. You, the person who brought her happiness and joy in life. She just wanted you to be fine no matter what happened to her. At some point her life stopped meaning anything to her. She knew she didn’t have much time left. And when I asked her why she was this laid-back, she replied that the most important thing for her wasn’t her life, but the happiness of her brother. I had heard a lot about you at this time and I just wanted to get to know you. I asked her what her brother looks like and…” She got something out of her pocket. “She gave me this picture.” The girl held out a picture. A selca with me and Hyejin.
“S-she gave you that?” My voice was brittle and squeaky. I would’ve expected anything, even that she was a werewolf. But never that she had anything to do with my sister.
“Yes, she did. And when she laid in the hospital bed, at least Tzuyu, who had visited her, told me from her that I should look after you and take care of you because she could no longer worry now.”
There was silence between us. Minutes of silence. Pleasant silence. “Then you got all the information about me from Hyejin?” I was still incredulous. Lian nodded carefully. “She loved you, Pingu. And she still does. Don’t do that to her and don’t blame yourself for her death. Try to be strong for her and smile for her like you used to do.” Lian asked me to. I forced a slight, dazed nod.
“Thanks.” The girl purred happily. I looked at the sky, at the full moon, and then at the mirrored imagine in the water. Countless feelings ran through me once. My head was all empty, as if all thoughts had been washed away by the river.
But I knew at least one thing. Even though I couldn’t clearly determine what I was feeling right now, I could say that I felt better by worlds than before the conversation. Before Lian.
“Are you ready for someone new in your life?” Lian whispered again. As at the beginning. Everything was like the beginning.
Just that everything was different.
“It will take me time to get over that with Yuri.” I answered.
“I’m just talking about a friendship.” Lian purred.
“I know.” I replied with a smile, put my head on her shoulder and closed my eyes.
I didnt get to go to prom due to corona virus, so could i have a reaction when the onewe members’ crush asks them to the prom with a poster and flowers and everything? I’d love to do that to someone, it sounds so cute
Hello lovely I hope this is to your expectation. Ah formal/ prom I remember that lovely night, had to leave for 10 minutes because my social anxiety said hello 😂
Yonghoon
You’d been super nervous all day and wouldn’t even make eye contact with him. He was starting to think you’d seen something you shouldn’t have- what if you knew he liked you. He could feel himself grow pale at that thought that he was going to ruin their friendship because of that.
When the end of the day had rolled around you’d rocked up to the dorm to say hello.
“Yonghoon I’m sorry I’ve been acting weird but I wanted to ask you something.” The words caught in your throat as you pulled out a banner with the words
Will you go to PROM with me?
Written on it. He takes a deep breath and smiles, a little irked he didn’t figure it out but extremely happy that you’d asked him. Since he was a few years older he didn’t really think about Prom until you’d asked him.
“Yes.”
Harin
He was suspicious from the get go. You’d started talking to him more often once the Prom signs started going up around your school whenever he picked you up. He was a friend of your brother and often offered to pick you up- he’s pretty sure your brother knows he likes you.
You’d walked out of the school building with a bag of cardboard, stickers, glue and pens. He raised a brow when you got in his car.
“Asking someone to prom?”
“How did you know prom was soon?” You’d asked.
“The posters are everywhere and your brother said you were excited for it. Want to go with anyone?”
“Yeah I want to but he’s out of school now so I’m going to have to do the old fashioned asking myself.” You’d giggled nervously.
The next day he’d come to your place to grab something from your brother when he saw you scribbling over the cardboard from yesterday with big bold letters asking
Will you go to PROM with me?
“Do I get to know who the mysterious person is that you are asking?”
Clearly off with the fairies thinking it’s your brother you respond.
“(B/N) you know I’m asking Harin.”
“You’re asking me? My answer is yes.” You’d turned around so fast and so red he didn’t think you could be human anymore. He laughed and kissed your cheek saying yes once again.
Kanghyun
You’ve known Kanghyun since you were kids, you grew up together and even learnt the guitar together- though you are competitive you’ll never aloud admit he’s better. When prom rolled around he’d been talking to you about all your friends going with dates and how they’d already organised fancy things and that he wanted someone to ask him because he was far to shy to even consider asking anyone himself.
You’d sat there in contemplation strumming mindlessly at your guitar.
“I’m going to ask someone.” You admitted.
“Oh who?” He asked and whilst he was a little sad he wanted you to be happy.
“It’s a surprise. Want to help me make the banner?”
“Sure.”
“When it’s done I’ll take a photo and send it to him.”
After half an hour you were able to finish the banner just before Kanghyun had to go back to his dorms.
“Send the photo now so I know you’ve not chickened out.” He laughs before hearing his phone ping. “Uh (y/n) you sent it to me?”
“I know.”
“I- oh! Oh! Yes I will go with you.”
“Oh thank goodness.”
Dongmyeong
He’d seen you everyday for the last few years. Always at the same piano exams, in the same music class, now even the same company while attending the same school. He got to grow with you even if you two only spoke when you could.
“Hi Dongmyeong.” You said, a month before the prom.
“Ah you know my name?” For some reason he’d been shocked.
“Yes? I know we never really spoke much but we’ve known each other for a while. Uh anyway I have practice to attend I’ll see you around.”
“See you (y/n).” He smiled. “She’s so adorable- why did I ask if she knew my name of corse she does.”
Even your own bandmates had noticed how your eyes would stray towards him. Even his bandmates saw the look of devotion in his eyes every time you two spoke from then on.
A week before prom you’d both agreed to meet with him in a private practice room, you’d sounded super nervous and he’d only hoped everything would be okay.
“Uh Dongmyeong... I’ve uh liked you for a while and I wanted to know if you’d like to be my date to the prom?” You’d asked, face covered by your hair. His mouth fell open with a gasp. The room had been dimmed perfectly enough to see you and the sign.
“I guess you beat me to the punchline.” He jokes pulling a daisy from behind his back.
“I guess I did- wait what?”
“I was going to ask you but you asked me first. The answer is yes by the way if me going to ask wasn’t an obvious answer.” He blushed.
“I’m glad.”
Cya
Giwook has always been shy around you and you’ve always been the boisterous one in the friendship. It was a good balance especially when he needed a break you always helped him out of any kind of funk he was in. Simple actions and things like that helped his feelings for you grow- to the point where a few of his songs that leaned more romantic were about you. You’d known- you had to have known he liked you at this point, while he was shy he sucked at hiding anything from you. Recently you’d started giving him longer hugs and kisses in the cheeks and sitting yourself closer to him when you two were alone which made him flustered, but he’d noticed you grow closer with his band mates, he wanted you all to himself but he wasn’t a selfish person.
One day at the recording studio you’d asked if he could have a listen to a song you’d written, saying he’d helped inspire the song and it was lovely, you’d captured the emotion correctly with your voice- that he found absolutely stunning.
While he was in deep thought he didn’t notice the members of Onewe pull up your sign asking him to prom until he turned around. The final lyric of the song was “will you go with me” and he understood as soon as he saw the sign behind him.
“Yes.” He said pulling you in for a hug. “Thank-you for asking me.”
“I knew you’d be too shy to ask me Giwook so I asked you first. I guess I’ll be asking you on a date first too then?” You laughed. He flushed before answering.
you sighed and sighed as you rolled around your bed.
it was a Saturday and you were bored to death. your parents left earlier for their wedding anniversary trip. so you were alone at home for 3 whole days.
you didn't feel like going out but you were just sooooooo restless not doing anything. you tried reading some books but you were just not feeling it.
you decided to just make some food for yourseld but the whole cooking and eating process onky took like 45 minutes.
you still had a long day to go. you quickly sat up on your bed when you thought of an idea.you reached for your phone to text your childhood friend!Hyungu.
well, Hyungu was one of your close friends because he was actually your neighbour who lives right next to your house . cliche bla bla but it was true.
your rooms were right opposite of each other so you could see each other through your room windows. sometimes you would secretly peek into his room and giggle to yourself.
yes you had a tiny little crush on him. Hyungu was always reading a book or playing his guitar when he was in his room. you really admire Hyungu when he was focused.
To : ☆Kang Hyungu☆
-- heyyyyy , you there? im kind of bored :(( --
you hit send and waited for a few minutes. you frowned and sighed. Hyungu was the only person you could think of right now. but he wasn't replying to your text anytime soon.
you went to the window and tried throwing some balled papers to knock his window. this was normal, the two of you would sometimes knock on each other's window to talk.
yeah phones exist but face to face interactions were just more precious. and also, because your windows were quite far and your voices would always be drowned together with the street noises, you and Hyungu had telephone cups.
yes the thing where you connect 2 cups to communicate .
you could call and text each other like normal people but the two of you were just used to this as you started since you were children.
again, there was no response from Hyungu's side. you sighed and plopped down on your bed, disappointed. *maybe he is not at home*. you thought.
you decided to entertain yourself by rewatching Harry Potter ; Prisoner of Azkaban. that was your favourite movie out of all the movies. because Harry looked extra good there.
anyways, halfway into the movie, you finally got a message notification from Hyungu. you swore you've never sat up from your bed so quickly before.
From : ☆Kang Hyungu☆
-- oh my, sorry for the late reply! i was making something earlier. if you're still bored, you wanna come over ? --
before you could reply his text, Hyungu texted you again. his message warmed up your cheeks as you read it.
From : ☆Kang Hyungu☆
-- no actually, i want you to come over. --
you quickly went to the washroom to wash your face and freshen up a bit. you know it was just a normal hang out but you just wanted to look presentable to Hyungu today.
you wore your favourite red sweatshirt and patted down your hair before leaving your house and heading to Hyungu's .
"y/n! come in!". the door opened, revealing Hyungu who was wearing an apron, all dusted with flour.
you scanned his 'outfit' which earned you a little giggle from Hyungu.
"don't worry,i didn't set my kitchen on fire. Harin helped me bake some cupcakes earlier. he already left because he had other plans.". Hyungu explained with a cute grin.
you nodded in understandment and smiled widely. "soooo, you want me to taste the cupcakes?". you anticipated.
Hyungu chuckled and nodded his head as he told you to wait at the dining table while he took the cupcakes.
salted caramel cupcakes.
"your favourite!". Hyungu chimed as he nudged his head towards the sweet treats , allowing you to taste some.
your eyes widened in excitement as you quickly reached for one.
"mmmmmmmm!". you let out a satisfied sound as salty sweet caramel flowed into your mouth as you bite into the soft cupcake.
Hyungu grinned at your reaction. all those naggings from Harin were worth it. Hyungu was glad you loved the cupcakes he made.
"aren't you eating?". you asked as your cheeks were full with the fluffly dough.
Hyungu chuckled again and ruffled your head. he leaned down to your eye level and poked your cheeks.
"hey don't talk when you're eating. you could choke. i ate some already so you can have them all.".
you blinked at Hyungu's actions and the close distance between the two of you. you felt your face warmed up.
you quickly swallowed the food and looked away. "o--oh tha-thankss..". you stuttered.
after a few minutes, everything went back to normal as the two of you chose a game to play .
"Dead or Alive!". you exclaimed.
Hyungu sighed and nodded. "that's like the ONLY game you always want to play.".
you pouted and flicked his forehead.
"noo i do play the games that you choose too!". you defended yourself.
Hyungu scrunched up his nose and turned on the said game. "okay okay, i understand that you sometimes have to let out the violence in you,". Hyungu teased.
you rolled your eyes and hit his arm. "i can just let it out on you!". you replied as you stuck your tongue out at Hyungu.
Hyungu chuckled and ruffled your hair again as he sat next to you and started the game.
you and Hyungu played for hours and only stopped when your stomachs growled.
"you have anything ?". you asked Hyungu.
Hyungu tapped his chin as he thought of the stuffs he had at home.
"i guess we have some pasta. you wanna fix some for dinner?". Hyungu asked.
you nodded and went to the kitchen as Hyungu cleaned up the game station.
Hyungu was right, they had some pasta. there was also some seafood . since both your stomachs were growling like mad, you decided to just go with something simple and made some aglio olio. simple but delicious and filling.
Hyungu was currently living alone in his house. his parents had some business overseas so they had to stay out of country for a few months. hence the two of them didn't have to worry about finishing up all the food.
"ahhhh that was great! thanks for the food,". Hyungu thanked as he volunteered to wash the dishes since you cooked.
it was getting late, you thanked Hyungu for the day and was about to excuse yourself when he stopped you.
"wait wait, i made a cookie for you . eat them right when you reach home okay?". Hyungu said as he passed you a medium sized fortune cookie that he packed in a paper bag .
you were confused but nodded as you got ready to go home. the usual 5-second trip took 3 as you were excited to eat the cookie Hyungu made you.
you were curious why he told you to eat it right you reached home. you knew fortune cookie always had a note inside.
and something in you hoped it was something good. something that would make you smile widely.
you went into your bedroom and unpacked the bag before taking out the cookie.
~ dear y/n.
you might find this lame and all, but i really like you since middle school. i am not sure of what more to say but, will you be my girlfriend?
☆Hyungu☆ ~
the printed words on the paper read.
blink
nani
blink
"AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH". you squealed into your pillow.
you really didnt believe your eyes. your crush has a crush on you? this is like too good to be true.
you want to believe it was just a prank but knowing Hyungu, who rarely expresses his emotions, he wouldn't play about these things.
of course you hesitated for a bit. Hyungu was a good guy but do you really deserve him? probably not but it doesn't hurt to try, right?
you quickly went to your window and threw your balled paper to attract his attention.
a few seconds later, a shy Hyungu appeared at his window as he opened it. you threw over a cup for him to listen to the things you wanted to say.
"yes. over.". you said.
Hyungu blinked and quickly held the cup to his mouth.
"yo-you mean , yes ? you want to be my girlfriend? over.". he stuttered.
you chuckled and replied though the cup.
"yes Hyungu. i like you too and i would love to be your girlfriend. over.".
Hyungu smiled widely and could not help but chuckle happily.
"then can i come over ? it feels cold here after you left. over.". your boyfriend!Hyungu asked cutely.
you scrunched up your nose and chuckled.
"grr you clingy boy. it's night time already! come over tomorrow okay? i am kind of tired and i want to go sleep. over.". you answered.
you could see Hyungu's deep pout as he got his answer.
"alright then... goodnight! over.". Hyungu bid.
you smiled and nodded as you waved at him. he threw back the cup to you . you caught the cup and quickly gave him a flying kiss before closing your window and running back to your bed.
Hyungu chuckled at your actions and held his chest.
"damn, the things you do to my heart...". Hyungu mumbled as he too got ready for bed.
Hyungu have had feelings for you since middle school. he realised this when boys started asking you out. well, you were a pretty girl after all.
but he didn't like you just because you were pretty, he loved your personality. although the two of you often argue with each other, it just made you two closer than ever.
Hyungu realised he had to make his move when you started dating some boys during highschool. he knew you didn't really like those boys but you dated them just so you don't hurt their feelings.
now that you're both in college, Hyungu was really determined to make you his.
he decided to ask help from Harin to teach him how to bake. you really love sweet stuffs and he really wanted to make you something you love.
although Harin nagged and scolded him a lot, Hyungu thought it was all worth it. because at the end of the day, he made you smile. and of course, you became his girlfriend.
it was really the best day of his life.
