the glorious kanimaa video song, from my album of the year, retro (2025), has just hit 100 million views on yt! i watched this portion of the film again to gif it and just got reminded how masterful the entire sequence is. from the song and choreo, to the camera work and angles through the whole 15 mins single take. beautiful.

because this 15 minutes single take sequence isn't just masterful direction and choreo for the song, but also masterful acting work from suriya, who holds these restrained emotions so well. the slightest tweaks in his initial happiness, to apprehension, to outright anger as he realises his day is getting ruined... phenomenal performance. he played that desperation for love mixed with undisguised frustration at his father so well here. i still hold that retro is one of suriya's best works in his career. what an actor. happy 100 mill for a well deserved song!
