Discourse aside, I remember you saying somewhere that you liked Jane<>Kanaya! Can I ask why? (Oh, and what are your thoughts on Aradia<>Rose? I've always thought that they could be good moirails)
(this is a really old ask so there is no current discourse on this blog (thank god) and this is not an invitation for anyone to start making discourse on this blog)
Jane♢Kanaya is!!!! So!!!! Good!!!!!
So, Jane and Kanaya are both very pragmatic individuals. If something needs done, they’re the girls you look to to roll up their sleeves and do it. They’re sensible, have a mean no-nonsense streak when they have a mind to, and the only time either of them has ever beaten around the bush is when romantic ~feelings~ are involved. They’re also the LAST people you wanna piss off. Jane has a temper like a bull and the strength to FLIP TABLES WITH SHIT ON THEM ONE-HANDED HOLY FUCK. Kanaya is very, very, very slow to anger, but when she does she has a CHAINSAW AND THE RAW STRENGTH TO SLICE PEOPLE IN HALF HOLY FUCK. Neither are the type of gal I’d wanna mess with.
They also have similar patterns of romantic history. Kanaya poured a lot of effort into a relationship where her previous pale partner regularly told her to “can it,” would ignore her texts/messages, and waved off any advice she gave while being almost disdainful of the emotional energy Kanaya was putting into the relationship while giving absolutely no return. Kanaya even had to ask Feferi if they were *ACTUALLY* pale, because she felt so unappreciated and emotionally unfulfilled. PLUS her relationship with her previous moirail ALMOST GOT IN THE WAY of her relationship with Rose, who is now her wife.
Like, Kanaya has been on the bad side of emotionally unfulfilling relationships before.
Let’s compare to Jane, who ALSO had deep romantic feelings for someone who ALSO did not give her any return on the emotional labor she exerted
Kanaya and Jane are both incredibly giving people. It’s one of their greatest strengths, and one of the reason we love them as much as we do, but they also will allow their own emotional needs to go by the wayside despite how they seem like the people best suited to avoid that sort of nonsense. Kanaya is someone who feels best when she gets to fuss over others, but in fussing over others she neglects to let herself get fussed over. Jane is the sort of person who really likes FIXING things, she’s a fixer, but she wants to be listened to too. They would work SO WELL with each other, taking their fussing and fixing to be the affectionate gestures that they are intended as, while also feeling important to their partner and valued!
Plus, you look me in the eye and tell me there is anyone in this universe capable of looking at a raging Jane and stepping in other than Kanaya. Roxy, who loves Jane with all her heart and has been friends with her for years, only made a timid attempt at calming Jane down that ended up flopping horribly. Anyone of lesser mettle would likely perish on the spot. But Kanaya is a powerful, no-nonsense gal who isn’t one to be cowed by a mean temper. You look me in the eye and tell me that there is a single soul who could look at a glowing chainsaw-wielding vampire alien lesbian and tell her to calm tf down, other than Jane. Jane isn’t scared of shit. Especially not her girlfriend.
They would just. They’d work SO WELL. They’d listen to each other’s problems and help each other and make each other feel valuable and listened to and wanted and they’ve got similar enough of personalities that their friendship would be easy and intimate and I feel they’d agree on many things and they’d do miracles to calm each other down in times of heated temper (nothing like having someone perfectly calm in the face of fury to soothe an upset soul) and also provide comfort and UGH they’d be so good.
Pale AraRose would be critically, teeth-rottingly adorable but I’ve already ranted on JaneKan for a while in this ask so if you wanna hear something a little more thought-out go ahead and send another one in (it’d end up at the bottom of the ask pile though. Oof, you all like my thoughts and I love you all for that but I’m also drowning in all of these X))
