kanakavathi from kantara chapter 1 — self portraits by avishikta roy 🪷
I'm a little disappointed that the song named Karma in the kannada version of Kantara chapter 1 is named Qismat in hindi. My hindi is not that good but I don't think the two words mean the same. I thought Qismat meant fate? I mean they would have used the same name in hindi as well because the song is all about hubris and that no matter how much you think you're above your karma it will eventually creep up on you. but naming it Qismat changes the whole meaning.
kantara chapter 1 is prob one of the most epic indian films ive ever seen
the plot, the cgi, the score, the characters everything was so peak
i cant wait for it to get on streaming bc i need to dissect it

There are few things more satisfying than going to the movie theater and feeling blown away by a cinematic experience.
I really enjoyed the first Kantara film, and I maintain to this day that it had one of the best climaxes of any movie that I’ve ever seen.
Writer, director, and star Rishabh Shetty returns with another glimpse into the beautiful world of Kantara, this time with a prequel, Kantara: Chapter 1.
Chapter 1 is a story of tribal villagers versus an evil king, of gods, myths, and legends, of greed and community, and while it is thematically similar to the first film, the scale here is cranked up to 11.
Every frame is gorgeous—the colors, the way the forest feels like it goes on forever, all the little details in the sets of the kingdom, and especially the CGI animals are breathtaking.
Of course, we can’t talk about how impressive this movie is without heaping praise on Shetty himself. As writer and director, he tells a great story, but it’s his committed performance that takes Kantara: Chapter 1 to the next level.
I was in awe of the physicality he brings to this role, particularly in the Guliga sequences, where he manages to transform his entire body. The way all his muscles seem to vibrate, the way his eyes widen, the sound of his primal scream, it’s a performance that requires unbelievable stamina and dedication. Give this man all the awards!
So Chapter 1 seals the deal for me and ensures that I will be seated for the next entry in this franchise.
