Why are south indians like this 😭 I love their culture but why do some of them have this weird superiority complex over north indians and associate only them with hinduism like?? South Indian hindus and Brahmins literally exist? I don't mean to be hateful towards them but I genuinely don't understand
Quick answer- a lot of colonial work has been done on the people and a lot of missionary works still being done there. Otherwise Hinduism is as embedded in the south as it is in the north. It is the north actually that had a lot of attempts by foreign invaders and colonisers to erase Hinduism from our lands and they succeeded in places like Afghanistan, Pakistan and Kashmir.
Today Hinduism survives in the north solely because of the massive pushback by local leaders and armies.
I do understand how the psyche of the Dravidian supremacists works tho, it’s mostly internalized hinduphobia coloured by colonial subversion and racist theories. They said that the hindi belt is uneducated for choosing bjp and they blame the people for wanting change from the previous dynastic government and then blame Hinduism for literally everything happening in the country.
North Indians especially Biharis are basically the scapegoats now. I literally feel so bad for the amount of racism that Biharis get from these people.
One example of this “Hinduism is not South Indian” narrative is the infamous Kamal Hasan debacle where he said that the Chola kings were not Hindu cuz they worshipped Shiva or that Hinduism as a term didn’t exist and the Chola Kings were Shaivite. I mean sure the term Hindu is an old but religiously a more recently adopted one but saying that the Chola kings didn’t believe in the Vedic tenets at large or that they didn’t worship anyone other than shiva is a mockery of history, our faith and their legacy.

Infact not just the Cholas but many prominent South Indian dynasties also deeply patronized Vedic traditions and performed grand Vedic rituals to assert imperial sovereignty and spiritual merit. Several specific dynasties and kings performed these rites, including the grand Aśvamedha.
Satavahanas, particularly King Satakarni I and Gautamiputra Satakarni, were renowned for performing elaborate Vedic sacrifices, including the Aśvamedha and Vājapeya (chariot race/sacrifice).
In Kanchipuram, several Pallava monarchs such as Simhavarman, Mahendravarman-I, and Narasimhavarman-I performed Vedic sacrifices and promoted Vedic learning alongside the construction of early rock-cut temples.
Emperor Bukka Raya I and the renowned scholar Vidyaranya revived and sponsored grand-scale Vedic rituals during the 14th century to cement Hindu identity and imperial power in the South.
The kings of Travancore famously performed the Hiranyagarbha (being born again from a golden cow/vessel for ritual purification) and Tulabhara (weighing themselves against gold to distribute to Brahmins) rituals up into the modern era.
Hinduism is an umbrella term for a lot of Indian belief systems but most of these belief systems trace their origins to the Vedas which is why we put them in the Hindu tradition and the Chola Kings were Hindu by simple definition because Shaivism is a distinctly Hindu tradition. Anyone who tries to deny this and claim otherwise has some kind of problem with Hindus and Hinduism and is out for making trouble where there isn’t any. I especially hate these kinds of people.
There was a blog on here claiming that the Ramayana is racist towards South Indians because they believe in the racist colonial lies about Ramayana saying that the Vanars and Rakshasa are South Indians in the epic which is bonkers because these beings are clearly supernatural and they have their origins in the Vedic literature itself. Like the Ramayana itself tells us that the birth of the Vanars is divine as it is the gods and the Gandharvs who took birth on earth as Vanars to help and aid lord Vishnu in his avatars journey. They would know this if they had read the scriptures rather than believing and spreading racist lies from some addled sop.
Another claim this blog made was that Vamana Jayanti is “bullshit” celebration to suppress the story of King Mahabali in kerala and the festival of Onam and that’s like so absurd because Vamana has been worshipped a lot in the southern parts. Vamana was literally revered on Onam. Vamana’s story finds it’s origins in the Vedas and he’s been worshipped since ancient times!
This is what happens when discord is sown by colonialism and colonialist liars and eaten up by eager minded malcontents inside the country itself.
