The West Zone
At FBI Headquarters... In The Situation Room... Right Now...
A hive of black-ops activity. Analysts typing at high-tech stations like so many worker bees. Tension in the air. Lives are at stake here.
AGENT-IN-CHARGE BROYLES, 40s, marches in and takes command. A tall, lean, mean, order-giving machine. Hire Lance Reddick now.
“Alright, everyone, listen up.” Broyles booms. “We have high-level intelligence of a critical and immediate threat--”
He taps a button on a handheld remote, activating displays of --
KANYE WEST -- his face projected on a wall screen --
"Kanye West is about to be let into his zone.”
A murmur of whispers. Broyles pushes on.
"Mr. West has repeatedly requested that we do not –- I repeat –- do not let him into his zone. Now it’s up to us to make sure that the unthinkable does not happen.”
Broyles taps the remote again and --
The wall screen shifts. Changes. Now displaying satellite imagery of Kanye West entering a building with a big sign – THE THRONE.
"As you can see here,” Broyles says “Mr. West is in the building. We are receiving minute-by-minute reports that 'They hands is to the ceiling’ and Mr. West is ‘bout to kill it.”
Broyles puts on a pair of glasses. Gets serious. Points at the screen.
"Now we all know how Mr. West gets that feeling. So I want all of us watching The Throne. We will not let Kanye into his zone! We will not rest, we will not eat, we will not stop fighting until Mr. West is safe and--”
An aide rushes to Broyle’s side, whispers in his ear--
Broyles thunders, “He what?”
A nod from the aide. Broyles takes his glasses off with trembling hands.
Stillness. Silence.
Broyles hurls his remote -- FLIPS A TABLE -- and slams his fist into the wall.
Then, his voice shaking with rage, Broyles mutters, “Our sources have just confirmed… Kanye is definitely in his zone.”
An audible gasp.
All hope sucked out of the room.
A few analysts cry.
"That’s it, folks,” Broyles chokes out. “Pack it in. There’s nothing more we can do here.”
Broyles waves everyone out of the room, starts powering down every station, turning away to hide his own tears.
As the room clears out, Broyles reaches for the light switch -- and just as he flips the switch -- he whispers to himself, “There’s just no stopping Kanye when he's let into his zone.”
Lights out. All lights. Every light. Every night. All of the lights.
I guess Oculus Rift has its first killer app! Protect the Zone!!
