Meet the Women of Kappa Theta Nu
Kappa Theta Nu is currently the largest sorority on campus with 10 active sisters and six current alumni.
The goals of the sorority are to break the stereotypes associated with Greek organizations. We want to empower women to be the best they can be through love, friendship and, most importantly, sisterhood. Kappa Theta Nu does not discriminate against race, physical appearance, or religious background; all Kappa looks for in members is women who are caring, sweet, loyal, and looking to help inspire others.
Rush Week is usually held in the Fall semester and Spring semester but sometimes we also hold Summer and Winter Rush for girls who cannot attend Rush during the school year. Almost all the girls who rush get a bid, which is known as the next stop to becoming a sister.
One of the annual philanthropic events our sorority holds is an Autism Speaks Week in April every year. It is a week of events with other fraternities and sororities on campus where we raise money for Autism Speaks. Every February we also hold a Party in Pink Zumbathon where we Zumba "dance" and raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness. A new annual event Kappa participates in is Greek Week where all sororities and fraternities on campus compete in games to see who the best org on campus is.
When I came to St Francis College, I knew I wanted to be part of something, but I wasn't sure what. I can't play sports so athletics were out of the question. I didn't just want to join a club; I wanted to join something where I can make friendships with people that I know will last a lifetime. So on Terrier Tuesday (the annual day-long welcome celebration for incoming freshmen), I walked around the cafeteria looking at all the different clubs and organizations students can be apart of, and I came across Kappa Theta Nu sorority’s table. I was instantly intrigued. I talked to the girls, went to their events, and I loved all that they stood for. My experience being in this organization for nearly two years has been an amazing experience.
When I first joined, I was this shy little girl, but the organization helped me to break out of my shell. This great experience has made me who I am today discovering wonderful friendships that I know will last for years to come. My sisters are my rock and are always there for me. In 2015, I received the honor of being elected as the Vice President of this sorority and can not be more excited.
Christine Maniscalco ’17, a Psychology major, is Vice President of Kappa Theta Nu, one of four sororities at St. Francis College. “One thing I love about the SFC campus is that we are surrounded by amazing places to go, like the Promenade, which is right up the block. It overlooks the beautiful view of New York City and it's a nice place to go to clear your head and just relax.”
