It had been three days since you last saw Steve. You knew something was up when he didn’t show up for work. The worst thoughts have overtaken your mind, and you find yourself racing to his house. You knock fervently, hoping and praying that someone would answer. And when no one did, you felt a wave of abandonment. 

Why had he just left you? No explanation, no reasoning, he hasn’t come to find you in three days! What could possibly be taking up his time? 

So, you left his house. You decided to leave any future mention of him at his doorstep. This was no longer your problem, as much as it pained you. The fault was on him now and whether or not he reached out to you was out of your control. 

Mere hours later, there was a knock on your bedroom window. You curiously checked who it was, and saw no other than Steve Harrington. You looked at him before rolling your eyes and giving him the middle finger. You weren’t really in the mood to deal with his shit anymore. 

He knocked again, and begged you to let him in. You tried to ignore him the best you could, but he just kept knocking and begging. So, you finally let him in. 

His foot catches on your window sill which causes him to ungracefully fall into your room. You shush him immediately, not trying to have any of your family come check on you. 

“Hey, honey.” Seriously? Those are the first words out of his mouth to you? After not talking to you for three, close to four days now? Oh, Steve Harrington was so in for it. 

“‘Hey, honey?’ What the fuck, Steve! I haven't heard from you for three, damn near four days, and you come crashing in here calling me honey?” You take a deep breath to try and calm yourself. Steve was your first real relationship. Even if you weren’t experienced in the girlfriend-boyfriend category, you knew when things weren’t right. 

Steve sighs. Something seems to be weighing on his mind. Your anger is fizzling out with each passing second and a familiar sting is taking its place. 

He opens his mouth finally and mutters, “I know. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean-” 

He cuts himself off. You sit on the edge of your bed and just look at him. Your lip is being abused by your teeth, and Steve is reaching out to stop it. 

“I was so worried about you. About us.” You take another deep breath. It had been hard, not hearing from him. “I was scared you didn’t want me anymore. That you found someone better, like Nancy.”

He is immediately stepping towards you and shushing those words and thoughts from your mind. 

“I would never, I mean never, want anyone besides you.” He forces you to look into his eyes. “It’s hard to be anywhere these days when all I want is you. I was miserable when I wasn’t spending time with you.”

The tears forming in your eyes are swift to fall, but Steve is quick to catch them. He pulls your head into his chest and allows for you to let your emotions out on him. 

After calming down enough to talk, you look back up at him. 

“Why didn’t you come to me then? Where were you?”

He looks away briefly before turning back to you. 

“I can’t explain everything. It’s too dangerous for you to know. I can’t watch you get hurt because of me.”

Pulling back in alarm, you reach for his face now. 

“Steve, tell me you’re okay. Tell me you’re safe? Please. I can’t live without you.” 

He grabs your hands.

“I’m fine. I’m safe. It’s just a very long, and confusing explanation. You probably won’t even believe me.” He chuckles. “You would probably think I’m crazy. Break up with me, tell the whole town to throw me in the loony bin.”

You let out a small laugh with him. How is it in these dire moments of panic he can find a way to make you laugh? 

“Try me,” were your challenging words.

He told you everything. You sat and listened, but most importantly, you believed him.
