Karasu Tengu prints hanging to dry. Crow tengu are considered lower versions of the more recognizable long-nosed human tengu seen in Japanese mythology I imagine these two are squabbling over some shiny relic. #art #linocut #tprintmaking #print #karasutengu #tengu https://www.instagram.com/p/B-Ua7e7A2Oh/?igshid=1o8t8x3tclbce

Inktober 2017, Day 7: Karasutengu
Tengu are legendary, mystical creatures sometimes considered as Shinto gods. They are traditinally depicted as birds of prey and sometimes other kinds with both human and avian features. They were originally depicted with beaks, but later renditions often show them as human faces with very long noses. Their image started as demons who brought war, but over time became seen as protector spirits of nature (although still dangerous). Karasutengu, also known as a more general Kotengu, are raven or crow tengu.
