Don't mind me playing with the design of "full spirit form" Tengu!Kai. On one hand, I wanna go with a highly stylized crow design, but on the other hand, I still want him to have Kai's trademark expressions.

September Summary!

Hello there, back again after a few hectic weeks and days in September! I joined azureXtwilight for the Spooktober VN Jam this year who I wanted to work with for a long time, considering her VNs were some of the first I played when I was younger XDD The game is called Onigashima and I worked on the character art, cover/ banner art and also colored the monster sprites!

I had a lot of fun with the character art since I was able to give all characters animal traits (that move in-game!!) and uh, haha, totally didn't do self-indulgent designs for one specific deer character XDD

The characters are all based on animals, except for MC who is more dragon-inspired! Shiori is obviously a fox girl / Kitsune, Hikaru is a crow person / Tengu and Yamato is a deer man (with a "slutty hakama slit"). I made sure to make all characters unique from each other and avoid similar facial shapes, bodies and eyes, so their silhouettes are easily readable!

Sadly I got sick with an annoying cold during development, so I lost some days of doing fancier stuff with art, but I managed to finish them sprites all in time <3 I'm really glad so many people have appreciated the art so far, especially because I suggested we go for watercolor / Sumi-e style to cut down on the rendering time.

Even did a small guide to follow for our CG artist Polly! Though it probably looks messy hahah since putting my brain processes into words can be difficult XD And well, the results are these sprites that people seem to love! Thanks a lot again!

So a fellow artist once posted that the Yo-kai Karasu Tengu (the one from the Forever Friends movie) didn't have really good reference to draw him, so...

I made this with the help of these low quality references.

Not much else to say about him aside from loving his design (and no, he isn't in YKW4 sadly 💔) and would love to make him a medal some day^^ (I say this phrase too much help)
