I am an ADHD person and one of my breakthroughs was findig music that helps me focus or at least overrides and drowns out the "lets just check this for a sec" distraction impulse. I neded up with pop and party bops, Spice Girls and Call me Maybe and other hype active songs that make me feel active. Made a playlist. If I DONT go o the computer to chnge the song, I can go for HOURS. My craftroom was trash AND clutter but now its organized and all but the desk is clean
I honestly cannot function without music, but it also has to be through earbuds. Otherwise, I’ll be distracted listening to the vibration of the speakers or the sound of the damn refrigerator two rooms away. I remember talking to my therapist about how when I got my first mini-disc player, it was like a light switched on in my head. Suddenly, I could get stuff done! Whether it was homework, cleaning my room, or just getting ready in the mornings so I’d be on time.
I’m sure my parents complained that I never stopped listening to music and always had headphones in. And I was always getting cheap headphones confiscated by teachers. I only had one teacher turn a blind eye to my music use. I suspect he knew I was some flavor of neurodivergent and didn’t care what I did to focus so long as I got my work done.
If I want to get hype, I listen to like pop or rock or something fun. If I want to stay seated and focus, I use video game music, preferably the kind designed for MMOs and maximized for helping you grind levels.
