suuuuuper rarely. and the full-on gaussian blur filter is a lot better than the tool, so I sometimes use it on backgrounds.

What was your first reaction to all the elves as they were first introduced?

In LotR or Hobbit?When I first watched LotR, I hadn't yet read the books or anything so I was operating blind (except for liking Orlando Bloom since I'd already seen him in all of the Pirates movies). The only one I actually remember reacting to was Galadriel - I thought she actually was going to be some creepy witch like Gimli said, haha. (I think this was influenced by the forest/witch scene in 10th kingdom (thanks hyperpop :| ) or whatever that was).in Hobbit, I had full knowledge of the characters and I had headcanons for and art of them long before official designs began to be published.

So...reaction to Thranduil in the first movie? You should ask keepcalmandsignalbatman - I basically hyperventilated because I wasn't actually expecting to see him until movie 2. It was awesome. I don't like Lee Pace's version of him 100% primarily because I had my own headcanons already and he doesn't fit them at all (lol, fail), but I do think it works excellently and could almost be completely canon. The thing that bothers me the most is that he's so jaded and superior and it leads a lot of first-timers to believe that, for example, he really doesn't give a fuck about the dwarves as they're being attacked by Smaug. I won't go over the justification for his actions again here as you can find that everywhere on tumblr, but just the fact that people are having to point out that no, he actually does have his reasons for turning his army around - means that in the movie he came off as a bit too unemotional and cutthroat, I guess. Could be canon, though!Legolas...well, I don't understand why he's more of a killer in Hobbit than he seemed in LotR. One would assume that he'd become more jaded and experienced in the meantime, not less...he seems very innocent in LotR, and they didn't bring that over into Hobbit at all (though admittedly he is in a command position on his own turf in Hobbit).

Galadriel? Oh god it pisses me off so much the way she rotates to face Gandalf on the balcony oh my fucking god it's so smooth no one can move that way D:< Also why the fuck does she just disappear? She can't do that! Did Gandalf zone out or get memory loss or something? Ugh. (Yeah other than that I don't really care so much about her in the movies. Although I'm kind of hoping that she and Celeborn and the Istari will storm Dol Guldur and she'll be Lady Kickass Alatariel in Full Armor aka a total BAMF in which case I will actually appreciate her character. I doubt they'll do that though.)

Lindir...oh god I could write an essay on how much his role in Hobbit pisses me off. HE IS A MINSTREL. GLORFINDEL IS THE FUCKING SENESCHAL. Hugo Weaving, always cool. Although I still don't understand why he would know Khuzdul. Ooooh maybe Maedhros and Maglor taught him *instant headcanon to explain inexplicable thing* I was so super excited to see him riding in in full armor and shit that was so cool. He cuts a tight figure in armor. Mooooreee I want moorreeDoes anyone else matter...?Oh! Galion...or at least the elf I'm assuming was Galion, Thranduil's butler with the keys. Damn, they couldn't have given him a smaller role. He does have a hot wrist though, I'll say that much.And right, Tauriel...I think they did a great job with her character, and Evangeline Lilly was wonderful! The love story needed to be cut though, it was super unnecessary. Like, I thought it was cute, and obvs a shit-ton of people got really into Kiliel, but, uh. Unnecessary. It didn't relegate her to simple love interest thank god, but I could have done without it. Also....WHY IS SHE A FUCKING REDHEAD PJ YOU HAVE SO MANY BRILLIANT TOLKIENISTS AT YOUR BECK AND CALL I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY DIDN'T PUT UP A FIGHT ABOUT THAT (this and the 'lindir as seneschal' thing really get my goat. urg)

PS: general first reactions were basically: "Yay! Elf time! they better be kickass this is gonna be cool"
