quinn stood at the light across the street of the massive building, waiting for the crosswalk light to turn green. The night was cold and while getting out of the snow covered streets and into the warmth of his destination,Quinn felt hesitant about the ordeal.
It had been three years since he had been with someone. Three long years filled with heartbreak and distance and acceptance of things that needed to end. Telling Kailee to leave was the start of everything changing. It only took a day for him to come clean to Amber, the shame of who he had allowed himself to become and the betrayal he had caused her after promising to try burning a hole inside of him.
it took her two days to confess to having relapsed for some time (refusing to give a definite date) and her forgiving him because your affair was emotional....and I can't promise mine wasn't physical. She offered him another clean slate which made his shame grow. He had already caused enough damage, blamed himself for being the reason Amber fell back into using, and denying his daughter a father she could respect. quinn thanked her for her forgiveness but the two had to face the reality that despite them having brought a beautiful person into this world together, he and amber had no business being together.
he spent the years following the break up focusing solely on his work and on his daughter. they were the things that mattered most and kept him from slipping into bad behaviors. so he kept busy, and doted on his daughter, and worked on healing from the pain he caused himself, and made sure he didn't think about her.
. he was more than happy with continuing his way of life. focusing on Skye and pretending that Kailee and any other potential dating partners didn't exist to save himself the heartache; but his daughter seemed to disagree and made that very clear when she announced that she had signed him up for a holiday speed dating event and he was expected to attend. "Wait. " the light switched to green and quinn began making his way across the crosswalk.
he agreed to come to the event, but only because he had done such a good job at "forgetting" his past love and ignoring any new ones that he thought one night of pleasantries and fancy appetizers wouldn't do too much to damage the inner work he had spent so much time working on. As he got closer to the building, which was emitting a soft, golden light from the broad windows that made up its walls, his shoulder's started to relax a bit as he anticipated the warmth that would meet him inside and the potential of a fun evening, despite not having any expectations for the outcome.
sadly the feeling of ease was short lived, as soon as the sole of his boots touched the curb of the sidewalk his eyes caught the glimpse of a violet coat he recognized all too well and his heart fell to his knees. he let his eyes follow the coat, hoping he was wrong only for them to be met by the figure of a person who he had spent so long pretending didn't exist, walking into the building he was headed for.
