In 2015, less than 10 of these masks were known to be authentic and to have been collected before 1908, during the "Congo Free State / État Indépendant du Congo" period, between 1885 and 1908. In 2018 and to this day, this pair of Royal masks is the only example of known "Ngaady a Mwaash" jumeaux / twins masks.
