No but. Okay I'm just having so many feels rn.
Because literally the whole of Angband knew Gothmog was in love with Mairon. Everyone. Not just Lungorthin, literally anyone who saw them interact could tell that the way Gothmog acted towards Mairon was different. Yes, he still teased relentlessly, but he was always softer and shyer, the teases and compliments always more genuine, but it was all in subtleties that added up. To anyone but Mairon, who I'm pretty sure intentionally blinded himself to it it was glaringly obvious.
And in canonverse he died before Mairon ever knew. And I can just imagine some well-meaning orc captain coming to Mairon, after the fall of Gondolin, and telling Mairon the truth. And just. AAAAAGH my FEELS.
