The last episode was GORGEOUS! Major props to the entire team. This show has some of the best color direction and background art I've seen in an animated show.
I couldn't agree more! All credit goes to our amazing art directors Kassandra Heller and Steve Lowtwait. Both Steve and Kassandra have been with the series since the early pilot days. In season 1, Kassandra was a BG painter and Steve was a BG designer. They both consistently went above and beyond and in season 2, we made the argument that we needed to bump them up to becoming "leads" in their departments. Kassandra became our Color Supervisor and Steve became our Lead BG Designer.
At the end of season 2, our original Art Director, Romney Caswell left BCG for an amazing opportunity elsewhere and Disney allowed us to promote BOTH Kassandra and Steve to Art Director positions. The two work in tandem, Kassandra overseeing all color/paint and Steve overseeing all B&W design. This was huge and allowed the two of them to divide and conquer in a way that the show never could before.
I also want to give mad props to the two of these folks because their promotions to Art Directors came about a month before COVID hit. Both of them had to figure out how to become Art Directors (over zoom) while also challenging themselves to completely upgrade the entire look of the show. Together, we fought to increase the size of the art team but the two of them led the entire art team through two long years of work-from-home, during S3 when we also decided to move the Greens to the country and basically re-launch the show. It was incredibly difficult and S3 would not have been possible without them.
I couldn't be more proud of Steve and Kassandra. BCG is very lucky to have such passionate and talented artists leading the entire art department!

Check out the last of the They Might Be Giants Dial-A-Song videos for 2018, "Mrs. Bluebeard"! (Not recommended for kids) I was lucky enough to work on this one with Kassandra Heller and Jeremy Galante. And of course, with They Might Be Giants.
One of Kassandra Heller's beautiful backgrounds for the Boots short. It was either laundry day or blanket fort day 😺
