I'm still 99.9% sure Colton would have been the Landry boy taken from his time to the 1800s if not for Kat jumping in the pond and saving him. It's just wild from the perspective of "what will happen will always happen" because the pond is essentially sending Kat there to ensure her own existence. But looking big picture, Kat really is the connecting piece - or even the catalyst - of over 200 years of events. Why? Is there some bigger reason behind the pond? The pond effects the Landry family most directly, but in recognizing how intertwined their lives are with other families like the Goodwins and Augustines especially, she's also a driving force behind Port Haven in its entirety.
