@kataireo — 'how long has it been since you’ve slept?
the question lands with a weight matt hasn’t come to terms with quite yet, somewhere tucked in between the rest of his lifelong mess. still, her words were left hanging in the air between the two tightly—all the while, he searched for an answer he didn't truly have, not really. he didn't know how long it had been himself, the honest response forgotten between the countless court filings and late nights on patrol. he can still feel her waiting for the answer; there wouldn’t be judgment, he knows that much.
he gives her the closest estimate he can manage, “a day or two. haven’t found much time to get rest,” his voice is gruff from exhaustion but steady, an anchor of reassurance that he really is fine. his posture is loose, back aching from all the exertion he’s endured the past week. “but i intend to, soon at least. the city's been .. a wreck, you know that.” he angles his face away just slightly, another small, deliberate gesture for her to cling onto that he’ll be alright.
