Not that it was helpful for him either way. Kate was so damn oblivious to the world around her most of the time that sometimes he wondered how she even survived. Well, hiding away in her house always helped but that was beside the point.
And then of course there was this almost-kiss the other day that he couldn’t get out of his head. He knew it was wrong and yet somehow he felt like it could make everything in the world just right.
But of course he couldn’t. He shouldn’t think of Kate that way, she was with Harry now; and there was no way that Liam would even think of standing in the way of that. Both of them where his friends and just- no, there was nothing that could make him betray both of them. Besides both their feelings had been kept bottled up for a while, he couldn’t come between that.
Liam ran a hand through his hair as he pretended to listen to whatever the girl next to him was chattering away about. Him and Kate hadn’t talked since that awkward drop-off after bowling and he had a feeling she might be avoiding him tonight. There was awkward tension between the two and Liam wasn’t sure how to handle the situation.
His phone buzzed and he pulled it out to realize it was a text from Kate to say she was leaving with Harry. Liam felt a pang of pain in his chest but chose to ignore it. Instead he took a swig of whatever was lying around on the table to help and ignore it.
He looked at the girl that was next to him. She was pretty in a very conventional way, not the same way as Kate was. Liam shook his head, he shouldn’t be comparing the two, it wasn’t right. At that moment he knew he couldn’t go home with her, it would be unfair. Liam cared too much about other people to hurt even the ones that he didn’t really know.
So by the end of the night he hailed a taxi back to his place alone, wishing that things could be simpler.
