god. if you’re there and listening, just please hear me out. i know the good die young and all that shit, but can you make an exception? just this once, for me. for her. for a girl with plenty of life to live, with more potential and a better soul than just about anyone on this goddamn earth (excuse my french, i guess), a girl a hell of a lot better than me. she’s my best friend and much, much more, and i need her. i- i can’t live without her. i guess i don’t have the right to ask for this, it’s not like i fucking believe in you. i just- i want her back and i’m covering all of my bases, i guess. just, please, if not for me, for her dad. for her mom. for everyone in the world who loves her. i’ll do anything, whatever the hell you want from me, you got it, i’ll do ANYTHING. just- bring her back. bring her home. so, bye i guess. do that for me, and we may talk again.
Kate and Cassie, the little mermaid au.
Cassie's mother absolutely hated Cassie's obsession with humans. Her father was the same way. Cassie thought that was probably why her mother hated it so much. Her father died at the hands of humans and she was afraid she'd lose Cassie too.
But Cassie couldn't help her curiosity. She spent days watching the humans. Her favorite places under the sea were the ruins of human ships. She had started a lovely collection of human items (even though she had no idea what some of them were for).
One day while she was exploring, a terrible storm hit. Cassie was swimming home when a sailor sank into the water. Cassie couldn't let the woman drown so she scooped her up and put her back on board her ship. Bleary eyes met her own for just a moment before the woman started coughing up water.
Cassie returned home but couldn't get that human out of her head. All her life, she had wanted to meet a human. Talk with them, maybe spend some time on shore. So she made a plan. She visited and old sea witch and made a deal: Cassie traded the witch her voice in exchange for human legs. It wasn't until after the deal was made that the sea witch mentioned: if she wanted to keep her legs, she had to get a human to fall in love with her and bestow true love's kiss within three day's time.
When she made it to shore, Cassie could hardly stand. A man who'd been on the beach helped her walk ashore but she couldn't thank him or tell him her name or even ask him any questions. Nate, he called himself, must have understood that she didn't have a place to stay. He escorted her through the gates of a large estate, and the sailor Cassie saved earlier appeared.
Kate took Cassie in, gave her clothes, and fed her. She kept saying that she remembered Cassie's face but couldn't quite place from where. Cassie was welcome to the palace. While Kate was off with her duties, Nate and Jonas showed her around. Even though she couldn't talk, with those two, Cassie was sure she'd find true love's kiss before her deadline.
But that day was inching closer and the boys were still so shy around her. She and Kate spent more time together. Kate understood that Cassie wasn't from the town and when Cassie mimed her questions, Kate patiently explained what each and every gadget was used for.
The final day of Cassie's magic approached. Neither Nate nor Jonas kissed her, despite her attempts throughout the day. By nightfall, Cassie was resigned to her fate. She and Kate walked down to the beach. Cassie did her best to mime what was about to happen when Kate suddenly realized where she knew her face. Kate remembers that Cassie saved her and understands that Cassie is telling her she has to go back to the sea now.
Before she leaves, Kate steps closer. She thanks Cassie for saving her life and admits that she'll miss her greatly. She even gives Cassie a farewell kiss.
Cassie feels warm everywhere and tells Kate, "I'll miss you too." She's shocked to hear that her voice had returned. Her deadline hits and she keeps her human legs, meaning she can stay ashore with Kate.
kate bishop + cassie lang - the breakup "Well I've lost it all, I'm just a silhouette, I'm a lifeless face that you'll soon forget, And my eyes are damp from the words you left, Ringing in my head, when you broke my chest."
