A few days ago was career day at my high school and this woman came and spoke about slam poetry. She even performed this poem for us, as well as one other poem. It was truly inspiring (and awesome). She's a super cool person so you should check out her vids on youtube.
"Remember, there will be a day you feed your daughter to a pack of wolves.
Panic. The day your son grows teeth. "
goosebumps !

today
you buy new sheets.
you move the bed.
you don't say a single word, even with all the hours in a day.
you see how many days your phone can stay quiet.
you see how long you can avoid everything and get away with it.
the answer is three.
three days off the radar. most
often, you can get away with
more than you ever want to.
somewhere in there lies
something to be learned.
but today the radio
wants your face to show the world
just how hard its been and
the air smells like wet pavement
and all the colors are changing
and the drugstore has an entire
section of greeting cards for
loss and the stoplight is out
and no one is treating it like
they are supposed to but
somewhere up there behind
those fierce clouds the sun
is shining away and the stranger
on the street who looks like
someone you could have loved
once smiles at you right when you need it
and there is sale at your favorite store
with your name all over it and your
favorite cafe is still open and there
is a parking place right in front and
the weekend is a short vacation from
everything that is hard and your
grandmother wants to hold your
hand today and there is a hilltop view
in your hometown that wants to
show you something beautiful
and all you have to do is
open your eyes.
the man who took the picture
yes i used to know him.
i too, thought he had a lovely
eye. well to be fair, not one,
but both. but the one, with the
chipped eyelid, yes. my favorite.
the tiny missing crumb. small,
almost unnoticeable. the divot
where the stone skipped across
smooth water. it sat just at the
edge of the eyelid. where the
water had risen and blessed
its chipped glass half-full.
here, I will write what I will
not say: he is still beautiful.
yes, I used to know him.
the man who took more
than just the picture.
My mother is a woman Of tooth and knuckle Which is to say she loves me And also to say that she would swing.
