Moçambique inaugurou hoje uma ponte, construída sobre a baía de Maputo, que liga a capital do país a Katembe, um pouco mais para sul.

Num primeiro impulso pensei: “É uma baía, porque precisam de fazer uma ponte? Porque não investiram em estradas?” Para dar respostas às minhas questões fui à procura de mais informação. E então verifico que a ligação de Maputo a Katembe, pela avenida da Organização de Unidade Africana, é de 137,9 quilómetros, enquanto a ponte sobre a baía tem 700 metros de tabuleiro suspenso e um quilómetro de rampa em cada um dos lados.

A travessia por cima da baía tem de ser mesmo uma vantagem para quem se desloca naquela zona. Então vamos ver um pouco mais. A ponte foi construída e financiada pela China que vai cobrar 785 milhões de dólares. Moçambique vai começar a pagar em 2019. O pacote do conjunto das obras inclui a construção de 200 quilómetros de estradas que se aproximarão da África do Sul e, ainda, mais cinco pontes de menor dimensão.

okaaaay, I agree you must be thinking we are very superficial girls who think life is just about parties, beaches and restaurants. But it's not true. We are aware that Mozambique is one of the poorest countries in Africa and education is one of the government's biggest concern. Unfortunately it is still estimated that 60% of the Mozambicans can't read,write or speak Portuguese. So we decided to join an amazing project called Livro Aberto (Open Book) that aims to fight against illiteracy rate in Mozambique by interacting with Mozambicans less unfortunate children. During the interaction we read stories, create books, paint and play educational games with the kids. Always, we are actually the ones who have learned the most with them. The first time we visited them, the kids we very shy and were maybe scared at us. But as we talk, read and play with them, they start to get less shy, and by the end of the day they call us ''Amigos'' (friends, in Portuguese). The pictures above is at our last visit to the Katembe, a community suported by the Livro Aberto Center.
