Artist Statement
My work explores many themes. Light both natural and artificial. There an exploration of self and a look at past and present .I use many material as I question these subjects, leds, prisms, wood , paper, projectors, gels, and plaster. I record all these experiment, with both still and moving images. I am fascinated with the relationship between science and art. I use many processes such as casting, sanding, set design on a small scale and photography.
Two programs I have studied over the last semester are Premiere Pro and Audacity, with these skills I have been able to create glitch art, stop motion, 3D mapping and create a variety of video work. From looking at Olfur Ellisons , Laura Buckley and Jaume Plensa works it inspired me to create visual aesthetly and exciting visual work.
Body Meets the Building . Finished stop motion. Through my research of Lsad . I came across a lot of the sad history that came with this building. The audio is from the vow the sisters of the Good Shepard took . I recorded the audio in different parts of the building. The church and the stairwells were few of the places. but i decided to keep the recordings of these ,as these spaces had antiquity and fantastic acoustics .With this combination the piece created a balanced contrast between now and then.
Doll / Self
I began with a simple material of plaster. Intending to project onto a form. Through the casting process of angelic heads I began pondering the ideas of faith. How every self contains faith in one form or another? This reminded me of Zhang Huan Buddas , Which I had the pleasure to see in Sydney , this instillation is to do with permanence and explores faith .I also looked at Camille Claudel work from early 19th century and her use of sculptural technics with marble and terracotta. Ahead of her time. Creating many faces plied up together, lead me to making a mound of faith.
From looking at Jaume Plensa work it inspired me to create visual aesthetly and exciting plaster work. I continued questioning self. My Self, and how to portray this in a non-illustrative manner. I began working with videos from my dancing experiences, videos that would be found online. I worked with premiere pro and experimented with the circle effect. I then 3d mapped the space I had to project with (Half my size) . I placed the blank faces on the wall, also made from plaster and explored the possibility of projecting onto the objects exact space . The video piece is from different aspects of my life dance, friendship and performance.
