17 & Gone by Nova Ren Suma (4 out of 5 stars) - A really engaging story about a girl who starts seeing (ghosts of?) girls who’ve gone missing at the age of 17, and while I admittedly skipped to the end after I started to get bored (around 25% in), I was so fascinated by the ending that I went back and read the entire thing, which doesn’t happen to me often (usually I DNF after that point).

Vivian Apple at the End of the World by Katie Coyle (4 out of 5 stars) - I had really been looking forward to this one about a girl whose parents get raptured as prophecied by the televangelist who’s taken over the U.S., and while it wasn’t quite what I was expecting, it was an intriguing semi-post-apocalyptic look at an America that’s been taken over by religious fanatics, and it had a great female friendship in it, to boot.

Delicate Monsters by Stephanie Kuehn (4 out of 5 stars) - A psychological thriller by an author who’s becoming a new favorite of mine, about three high schoolers in California who are dealing with dark pasts and whose stories come together in a way that’s revealed throughout the book in a fascinating and disturbing way.

Escutem, o mundo não está acabando. Não vai acabar durante a vida de vocês, ou a dos seus filhos, ou a dos seus netos... mas talvez acabe durante a vida dos seus bisnetos, pra ser sincera. E é culpa nossa. Não levemos a vida de forma sustentável. Não estou falando apenas de reciclar e de fechar a torneira enquanto escovamos os dentes. Estou falando de como tratanos uns aos outros. Como decidimos que somente algumas vidas são importantes, que apenas poucos merecem ser tratados como humanos. Não há vida sem valor na Terra. E isso inclui aqueles de nós que foram Deixados Para Trás. Não sei aonde foi toda aquela gente. Talvez tenham nesmo ido para alguma espécie de paraíso cristão. O que estou dizendo é que nós também somos boas pessoas. Nossa vida tem valor. Eu acredito em cada um de vocês. E o que não quero é que fiquem deitados esperando o fim chegar. Não quero que vocês deixem o resto de suas vidas de lado só porque o Deus de outra pessoa não tentou salvar vocês. Porque, querem saber? Se ele não tentou salvar vocês, não era um bom Deus para começo de conversa.
