#Repost @gasworkslondon with @make_repost ・・・ During her residency, artist @katienumi has responded to Lambeth (Gasworks' location) looking at histories of colonial trade. She has produced a series of video performances eating sugar in front of monuments and public spaces named after Sir Henry Tate, one of Lambeth's former inhabitants. In addition, she has researched fruits, blossoms, flowers and plants which are connected to sugar plantations and her own family history. These images show a selection of works Katie created during her residency, including a series of embroideries that feature stitched affirmations. She created these after experiencing micro-aggressions whilst attempting to conduct research in London, and in response to navigating a misogynistic world as a Black woman. Watch some of Katie's video work on our website or tune into her online conversation with artist Joy Gregory on our Instagram feed this Sunday 20 March at 12pm, arranged in partnership with @tropicalpapers_ -- #katienumiusher #artistinresidence #openstudio #contemporaryart #gasworkslondon #belizeart (at Gasworks) https://www.instagram.com/p/CbVD6xmNK_j/?utm_medium=tumblr
