@Cayetano.Ingrid ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Today we honor a treasure to the country of Belize, German-Belizean female artist INGRID CAYETANO. Born in 1956 in Ahrweiler, Germany, Ingrid studied art at the University of Applied Sciences in Cologne, Germany. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Serendipitously, a lover of Belizean art and culture, Mrs. Cayetano visited Belize before early 1981, just before Belize won its independence. Employed with the Chamber of Commerce, she was able to place her work in its current art expo, and invited Benjamin Nicholas and Pen Cayetano. Pen would later invite Ingrid to Dangriga, where they formed a relationship built on the foundation of Belize art, food and music. She would quickly become the first manager for the Turtle Shell Band, the group that created the now famous genre of Punta Rock. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Ingrid’s art is mostly in the medium of Needle and Thread on Fabric. Whether the subject is objectively cultural or subjectively emotional, she invariably manages to stitch life into an otherwise lifeless, mundane scrap of cloth. She has drawn inspiration from the Garifuna experience and also created her own designs, and has refined different motifs in her art. Her creations are inspired and linked to the artist’s surroundings like ‘mother and child’ scenes, portraits— especially extraordinary women, and presentation of cultural subjects like dances and rituals. Along with her son Ibo she wrote the children book stories “We Are Free” and “Wanaragua” which were illustrated by her daughter Malí. She offers various homemade food products under her brand “Ms Ingrid.” Besides being an artist, Ingrid Cayetano is the coordinator, manager, mother of three and also a member of the family band “The Cayetanos.” Since 1978, she has performed and exhibited in Germany, Europe and abroad. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Mrs. Cayetano now resides in Dangriga, with husband Pen Cayetano at Studio Gallery Cayetano. They give an immersive tour, teaching Garifuna culture, cuisine, art and traditions, to Belizeans, tourists and art collectors. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #InternationalWomensDay2021 #BelizeArt #BelizeanArtist #GermanArtist #AfroCaribbeanDiaspora #AfricanDiaspora #Belize #Garifuna #TextileArt #CayetanoGallery (at Belize, Central America) https://www.instagram.com/p/CMLUnxRhIiM/?igshid=4ru7smvdhw2t
