allegiant overall thoughts SPOILERS DON'T READ IT IF YOU HAVE NOT READ ALLEGIANT (again this is messy sorry)
I don't know what to say about allegiant. i have mixed feelings about it. all i can say is that i pretty much thought almost the whole book was boring and/or confusing, except till the chapters 40 until the epilogue (which was meh for me).
first, i'm very upset and frustated with the division of tris and four pov, because honestly, they are the exactly same person talking the story, only in different places!!!
as i said previously, i hated four saying metaphors all the time. it wasn't the tobias we know from tris pov from the other two books and i felt uncomfortable while reading them. four, you are not augustus waters. enough metaphors.
i felt the explanation for what divergent is so... disappointing?? not enought explained to me?? idk, but genetic pure and genetic damaged?? i expected more. it didn't make sense for me. i still don't know if gd people have only the traits that each factions are based off and gp are like normal people or??
also, tobias not being divergent??? wtf?? so how does he know that he can control his fear landscape?? "oh, it's because he has some genes that makes him seem like he is a divergent but lol, he isn't" so?? does this happen a lot or is tobias the first case of this happening?
and i still don't know if tori is divergent or not. at first i thought she weren't but then in insurgent she got in the room where jenaine was before tris could escape that poison/allucination thing and how did she do that?? did she, idk, climbed in a window next to jeanine's room or was she waiting there the whole time so jeanine could appear?? such a shame tori died, because her character was actually useless in allegiant.
and uriah, like, "hi tris i'm just sitting here and waving at you and smiling like, lol, nothing bad is going to happen you kn-BOOOM". he is our divergent version of prim. poor him thought.
so! george is not dead! yay! so tori killed jeanine for nothing! yay! lol, imagined if jeanine was still alive and when both of them find george jeanine would say "told you bitch, right?! (that wasn't funny, ik). and amar is alive too! and he is gay with george! yay! but what happened to them? stayed together and had childreen? only in fanfics.
i didn't like how peter character was portrayed in this book. he was so OOC that i thought i was reading about another peter. i don't expected that he wanted to wipe his memories just because "i don't want to be bad, but i can't do it on my own". i thought he was doing it because once he realised how big the world really is, he felt useless and he isn't nothing compared to the size of the universe that he wanted to be a new person and don't worry about it. honestly, he wasn't that 'badass' as he was in the other books (even being a bitch as he is). honestly, i think he should have sacrificed himself in the last tris chapter for reedem himself or something.
and caleb... idk. veronica didn't explained caleb very good?? i still don't know why he was in jeanine side. i could understand that she propably said "if you don't help me i'll kill your family and you", not like "i helped her. forgive me". BUT WHY? and the fact that he was almost always being punched/hurt in the entire book, he was like jason in moa. drinking game: drink every time caleb gets hurt. and i was disappointed about his ending. i kinda wanted him to do something 'useful' for once but i knew the moment he voluntered himself like katniss to die, i knew that tris was going to stop him somehow (i was already spoiled last year but w/e). instead we waisted pages of gun training for caleb never using a gun for what?? idk, but i feel like i wanted to the endings between peter and caleb were reversed (caleb is the one who lost the memories and peter stills the same/or is killed? i don't think peter would like to still live knowing that everyone think he is a sociopath.
also i started to like peter and caleb as brotp in the beginning. brotp: hated by tris prior.
i think the only characters that were good and stayed calm and right was cara and christina. still a shame we don't know christina last name but we know uriah and peter's. (idk why but i shipped cara x caleb and christina x matthew?? althought people think christina x four was going to be a thing??? i don't think so??? either cara x caleb or cara x matthew. erudite bros)
also, of course tris and four needed their first time on the day before the 'oh sh*t' day. of course. their sexual tension in this book was kinda annoying for me. so was their fightings about thinking each one was cheating the other one. not another round of insurgent fights, please.
well, now the moment we all (i think) wanted to talk about: chapter 49/50 (for me). when tris and caleb decided to play 'candor' i thought 'yep, she will decide to sacrifice herself' and then caleb says the magic words 'just want to die so i can be forgiven' and BAAM, tris selflesness is turned on and she changes her entire opinion about how she did not forgive caleb for betraying her and not saving her from erudite and how she punched him and saying that she would 'kill him' in one second.
tris: 'oh, you know what caleb? i had an idea! i'm going in your place to sacrifice myself because one: since i'm almost the wolverine of this trilogy and i'm immune to any serum, i can't be killed very easy and two: i'll teach you what real sacrifice means because what are you doing isn't sacrifice.'
caleb: '... but you are going to die'
tris: 'nah, of course not'
caleb: 'but you said pages ago that you wanted to live! no more suicidal missions!'
tris: 'this isn't suicidal mission, this is a way to show you how the only correct way to sacrifice yourself is to show love for the other person and since you won't do it because you love me, i'll do it for you.'
caleb: 'but tris...'
tris: 'watch and learn bitch. also, say to four that i'm sorry, but my yolo keeps calling me'
......really tris? really???
AND SHE DIDN'T EVEN CARRY THE GODDAMN GUN IN THE ROOM
YOU WERE TRAINED IN DAUNTLESS AND YOU FORGET THE FRICKING GUN OUTSIDE??? THE ONLY WAY TO PROTECT YOURSELF??
ALSO, WHAT ABOUT THE GUN PROTECTION THING YOU WORE WHEN YOU VISITED THT PEOPLE? DIDN'T THOUGHT OF WEARING IT?? of course not because being killed for a gun is something that is not going to happen.
i did not cried tbh. i can only cry if i listen to sad songs and i related it into the story (which worked for me in tris case when i heard 'please don't go' by barcelona), watch the reaction of the person or feel a very deep affection to the characters and suffer about it for hours rudy steiner for example
but oh well, it was almost a foreshadowing since the first book. what a character development:
divergent: i'm selfish. i'm not selfless enough to be abnegation.
insurgent: you know what, i have to be selfless because so were my parents that died because of me. in fact, i'll become a suicide seeker so i'll think i'l making a sacrifice.
allegiant: you know what now, i really want to live. i think i'll make it till the end of the book. *sees caleb* but oh wait, now i finally understood the meaning of sacrifice and now i can put my selfless mode on and do the right thing once.
and four finally doing the zippling thing because 'it's time to trow tris ashes in the city as if she was flying but now in ash form'. now people say that he faced his fear of heights, so his nickname should be changed to 'three'? honestly for me, it was like 'i did it once and i'll never do it again'.
yeah, i think that's it. i would give it a 2,5 or 3/5. idk if insurgent is worse, but they are tied in my order of favorites. divergent will always be my fav.
message me if you want to share your thoughts/opinions about the book!
